they fixed it already and i should get i tomorrow ( that was fast since they just got it friday pm)

they had to replace the motherboard and the IS unit and cleaned and i guess calibrated it some how ...seems like a lot wrong for a 6 month old lens.... at least it was all under warranty so i didn't have to pay( so no hulk photos this time)...do all lens have motherboards or just the is ones?...thinking about Rachel's lens problem which i know isn't the IS since it's not an is lens

this makes me really leery about the IS though, although this is the older kind...i doubt it would be cheap to fix and 400-600+ is a lot for a disposable lens if it breaks again( not to mention the L lens costs for IS L lens).

has anyone else heard of like problems with the is lenses?...the only thing i heard was some of the 70-300 having problems in portrait but i think they fixed that.

That's good news, and you just thought you were losing your mind, huh? :rotfl2:

Glad they are fixing it and you are getting it back quickly.

I just got the same lens and I have a question for you. Have you noticed that this lens simply does NOT like low light? I have a heck of a time using it indoors. When I go outside - not a problem.

Anyone know why?

lately i have even had problems outdoors and don't know if it will be better now or not. although with the 135 end it's 5.6 so not that great for low light anyway, i had a problem getting it to focus taking a small waterfall in a small ravine ( in winter, no leaves etc and snow ), inside recently i could get it to take in available light( a green house) but not if i was bending over( guessing that might have been something with the IS)
i like the lens, use it a lot, i don't see a image quality problem but not sure i would buy it again...it bugs me to have to get something repaired due to a quality control issue and then i'm neurotic enough to wonder when it's going to break again...plus i really wish it had a better aperture range...i think i tested it once and it was f5+ pretty early on in the zoom length..however like i said maybe it hasn't been working most of the time. i don't know what other options are there now for that zoom range but if i could do it over, i'd probably get something with a bigger aperture...i
probably i will end up selling it and my 18-55 kit lens (if i get the 70-200f4, not if i get the 200mm f2.8) and get a wider angle to meet up with that below 70 since i want a wider angle anyway
