AGLET – We're Gonna Tour The World Together! Updated 11/9!!!

What a scenic trip to WL! I'm kind of odd. I like some outdoorsy things but not others. I live in a house in the middle of nowhere, but it's a house so I like it. I hate camping. :rotfl:
Can't wait to hear about Artist Point!

Jim Gaffigan would say you're "indoorsy". : laughing:

Hahaha that would be pretty accurate! :thumbsup2

Well, you know where it is when the time is right! ;)

Did you see the display that tells about all the layers?

We love Wilderness Lodge, and since we do enjoy the nature-y atmosphere, we will stay there again someday. We also want to stay in a Fort Wilderness cabin one of these days. That would be a little different than just being at a normal Disney resort, I think. I don't know that we will ever tent camp, but we would enjoy a cabin.

I don't want to see real news, either, when I am on a Disney vacation.

Yes, it was really interesting! There was a little rock display there also!

It really is a gorgeous resort! I've never been to Fort Wilderness, but it looks cool too!

You don't love TSM??? The horror...just kidding! :goodvibes I'm in the you didn't miss much at Sci-Fi camp. I've made ADRs there for most of our trips and we always end up cancelling them. Love WPE, though. I really like it when something everyone raves about on the Dis really lives up to the hype and, in my opinion, WPE is one such place.

I think its Trend-y. :lmao: Its a neat store and they have some cool stuff, but why would I pay sixty-five dollars for a t-shirt??? Oh, right...I wouldn't.

I'm with you on the Vinylmation thing. Do not get it. Oh well...more for everyone that does, I guess.

WL looks so pretty, but so not for me. I don't quite get the whole Pacific Northwest in Florida thing. It just seems out of place to me and not why I'm going to Florida, but I do want to check it out someday.

Hahaha yeah, not really for us! One of these days, we WILL get to Sci-Fi though! Wingnut loves those movie clips too much for us not too! WPE really does live up to its Dis hype, it was a great restaurant!

Don't forget, it's $65 for a t-shirt that's also weird and drapey and too thin to not wear with something else underneath! Every shirt I've ever seen there seems to be just like that!

I really did like the theme, I've always wanted to go to the Pacific Northwest, but I think it was the feeling of isolation that got to me more than anything else . It was fun to visit though!

I love the boat pictures! So pretty!

I've never seen WL in person, just in pictures, so I can't say for sure whether or not I want to stay there, either. It does look gorgeous, though!

Thanks!! It's a gorgeous resort!!

I'm with you on the Wilderness Lodge thing, I'm not too outdoorsy myself. ;)

That fireplace is pretty incredible though, and the theme is pretty (to visit for a few minutes). :thumbsup2

Hahaha outdoorsy is DEFINITELY not an adjective to use about me either!

It really was beautiful! I loved the theme, but I just can't see us actually staying there!

More please :)

Hahaha coming up soon! :thumbsup2

I love seeing all photos from the boat ride!

I personally want to stay at all the Disney resorts someday! I'm not too outdoorsy either though, hahah. The resort sure looks beautiful, yet very rustic.

Yeah... the real world and Disney just DO NOT MIX. Ugh.

Thanks!!

I think staying at all of the resorts would be awesome!! It was a fabulous combinations of beautiful and rustic, exactly!

No, I didn't realize how much I didn't want to see news tickers while on vacation until they scrolled on by!

I love your pics from the boat! I love traveling by boat in Disney World!

My Lodge! It's so beautiful! I'm glad you liked it, even if you don't want to stay there! It's weird, I'm not nature-y or outdoors-y at all, and yet, that place feels like home to me! :thumbsup2

Can't wait to hear about Artist Point!

Thanks!! I love the boat transportation too! It's a nice break from the buses.

Awww I know how much you love the WL!! It really really was gorgeous, I couldn't get over the different plants, and how cool it was that they had the Pacific Northwest plants growing just down the lake from the tropical Polynesian plants. :flower3: I guess Disney World encompasses all of the Hardiness Zones!!

I was a couple of updates behind, but I am all caught up now!

Sounds like a successful trip to DtD for the most part -- we've never bought anything in Tren-D, either, but it is fun to look in there.

Gorgeous pictures from the boat and around the Wilderness Lodge. I have played around with the idea of staying there before, but I am with you -- just not enough of a fan of nature to really want to.

Looking forward to hearing about your dinner at Artist Point!

It definitely is fun to walk around, but I can't say I've ever bought anything there either!

Thanks! Hahahaha yeah, I'll admit that I'd rather stay around a little less nature too!

I can't wait to read about your meal at AP!

Thank you for posting pics of WL. It was a nice place to stay. I am not sure I will go back... maybe.

Awww I thought you guys had a good time there! Think of the waffles!

Hahaha, I would say that's one time arriving early to a place would not work in your favor. I would be crawling out of my skin waiting for the restaurant to open. I can't wait to hear about it though. I've never been to Artist Point before.

Yeah, we were pretty much lurking around outside the entrance...it was not subtle at all! :rotfl:

I LOVE TSM. I think its a fun interactive ride! That is weird that there was a sign that said bus to DtD. Very Strange! I believe there is transport between parks but not between parks and DtD as if there were people would park free at DtD and then bus to the parks.

Can't wait to hear about your dinner at Artist Point!

It really was weird! I have no idea why the sign was there!

That's a really good point why there's no DTD to park transportation. I didn't think of that before!

What a scenic trip to WL! I'm kind of odd. I like some outdoorsy things but not others. I live in a house in the middle of nowhere, but it's a house so I like it. I hate camping. :rotfl:
Can't wait to hear about Artist Point!

Hahaha houses and camping are definitely totally different! WL really is gorgeous though, definitely worth checking out!

(I last left you outside of Artist Point...)

We loitered outside of the entrance to Artist Point for only a few minutes before we were warmly greeted and led inside the restaurant.

We were the first ones to be seated, so I took a few quick pictures of the ambiance before other people arrived.

Our table was right next to one of the large windows overlooking the area of the Wilderness Lodge that we had entered through earlier.

Our view was also of a bit of some roof.

Candle on our table:

Our server, Izzy, arrived quickly, and he was absolutely fantastic. Izzy was extremely attentive, funny, and knew literally every single aspect of the menu, and was more than thrilled to describe every dish we were considering in detail.

He brought over some of the usual Disney bread with salted butter, but this version came served in a gold panning tray to go along with the Pacific Northwest theme. (Izzy joked that we could try our hand at finding some gold while looking over the entrees.)

The bread, which I'm going to guess was sourdough, I'm also going to guess was good, since it really doesn't stick out in my mind. W: "Standard, decent bread. All of the restaurants have good bread, I guess."

Your intrepid travelers:

(I have to apologize for the pictures in this update, the lighting in Artist Point was a bit tricky, so the food photos to come are not so great. But there are pictures of everything we ate, do not worry! :thumbsup2)

For my appetizer, I was eyeing the Salt Roasted Heirloom Beets - truffled goat cheese, cider pached pink lady apples, spiced walnuts and mulled wine vinaigrette. Now, I had literally had beets once before this, and that was just a sliver of one as garnish. But I had thought it was pretty good, and wanted to give this a try.

W: Are you sure that you're going to like it?

Me: No. But I want to try it.

(Is this reminding anyone else of our conversation at Citricos?)

W: Do you want me to order something you'd like if you end up not liking the beets?

(Side note: Wingnut LOVES beets.)

Me: No, get whatever you want. If I don't like it, then the beets are all yours.

Wingnut ended up choosing one of the few appetizers that I wouldn't even go near, the Penn Cove Roasted Oysters with Dungeness Crab Ceviche.

W: It was very good. I'm glad that I tried it, but I would have been better off getting something else. It was my own fault.

The "something else" that he totally wishes he had gotten, and still talks about being envious of?

My salt-roasted beet appetizer!

As it turns out, Wingnut had absolutely no reason to worry that I wouldn't like this dish, because he barely got a bite for himself! (Yes, I did share, I'm nice.) I LOVED this, the flavors and textures were amazing together. W: "It was very very good. I wish I had gotten that."

Wingnut made me take this picture of my plate practically licked clean. He was thrilled that I loved my appetizer so much (probably because he was also hoping that this meant that beets would make more of a regular appearance in our household. Spoiler: they haven't.)

Soon enough, it was time for entrees, and Wingnut and I ordered exactly the same thing: the Char-grilled Buffalo Striploin Steak - with marble potatoes, garden vegetables, and Shiraz Gastrique.

My plate:

His:

Wingnut loves Brussels sprouts, and so he was really excited to see the festival of them on his plate .

Remember back during my California Grill review, I alluded to Wingnut's favorite buffalo steak? Well, this was it!

W: "I thought that this was probably one of the best dishes I've ever had. The Brussels sprouts were a nice touch. (S: ;)) The cast-iron sear gave it a nice caramelized flavor.

I was really glad that I had tried this dish as well, the meat was delicious, and I loved the vegetable accompaniments. You can see on my plate that there was little bits of flaky salt on top of the meat, which made it taste even, well, meatier and richer.

Of course, after this, we had to have dessert as well!

Wingnut chose the...well, I don't have the exact name of this dish here, but I'll go with Chocolate Cake with Berry Shooter and Fresh Berries.

That sounded convincing! ::yes::

Basically, this was a little chocolate cake accompanied by a berry juice "shooter" and whipped cream.

W: "This was literally the best dessert on Disney property. The chocolate cake was unbelievably good, and the shooter was really unique and tied the whole dish together."

I knew what I had wanted to try since we first made this ADR, the Berry Cobbler.

I absolutely loved loved LOVED this dessert, it was chock-full of berries, the cake had warm berries inside of it, and it was topped with a layer of ripe fresh berries. The black raspberry ice cream was absolutely perfect with the dessert.

I'm pretty sure Wingnut and I didn't end up sharing either of our desserts that evening! :rotfl:

Overall, we both thought that Artist Point was the nicest meal from beginning to end. We loved the ambiance of the restaurant, and all of our dishes were fantastic. Izzy was fantastic as well, his enthusiasm about the menu made us that much more enthusiastic about what we were eating as well. Towards the end of the meal, he discovered that we were from NJ, and began to rhapsodize about the Northeast.

"Tell bagels and diners that I say hi!!!" were his parting words to us. I told him that we had started off the trip at a NJ diner, and he wholeheartedly approved.

As we left the restaurant, we agreed that Artist Point is unquestionably a must-do for us in the future! :thumbsup2

Wingnut made me take this picture of my plate practically licked clean. He was thrilled that I loved my appetizer so much (probably because he was also hoping that this meant that beets would make more of a regular appearance in our household. Spoiler: they haven't.)

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: This made me literally laugh out loud! To me, beets are a huge pain to cook at home, I hate turning purple from them!

I also wouldn't have gotten the oysters, no matter how hard I try, I can't like them.

The restaurant looks beautiful! I'm so grateful that you got there early and we got to see so much of it!

I'm 100% certain that DH would have gotten exactly the same entree as you. I can be weird about game meats. Did it taste gamey? Or did it taste more like really lean beef?

The desserts look outstanding!

We plan to do a lot more signatures on our next trip, so I'm loving all of the reviews that you're doing! Sounds like Artist's Point was the front runner so far?

Wow, Artist Point looks gorgeous! The food also looks amazing! So glad you guys enjoyed it so much. :) I would be completely torn between the berry cobbler and Wingnut's dessert.

You remind me of my DBF...Wingnut's appetizer is something he would not touch with a ten-foot pole. However, he also would not touch the entree, because he can't stand anything steak-like. That is totally up my alley, though!

I'm all caught up on your TR (one of the good things about being absent from the Dis for a while is lots of reading to catch up on)!

Your Artist Point dinner looks SO good! I've never eaten there, and now I itching to try it! Thanks, as always, for the detailed review!

(Oh, and here are a couple of additional exclamation points, just in case there aren't enough up there!!)

I'm so glad that you enjoyed your meal! Sounds wonderful (though most of the ingredients are basically foreign to me... go figure)!

This is actually the first good review I've heard of Artist Point, surprisingly, so I'm really glad yall enjoyed it so much. :goodvibes

AP is one of my favorites! I love the buffalo and that berry cobbler is amazing! Can't wait to eat there again in October.

Jill in CO

We celebrated our 5yr anniversary at Artist Point and had a wonderful meal (except for the desserts... but we had problems with lots of desserts....) Can't wait to go back in October... What will make it even nicer is leaving the restaurant and simply walking back to our room at VWL!

I'm so glad you guys liked Artist Point, we loved it! I know the bread is just standard bread, but I loved it SO much! :) I can't wait to go back there someday!

See, I never even remember AP is there. I have a problem remembering resort restaurants (I'm getting better;)), but I think I mostly don't think about it because I don't think any nice restaurant would be good for my rowdy children!:lmao: Maybe one day, on a date or something...

True story: I've never eaten a beet in my life.
Another true story: I hate oysters.
I'm thinking that if I want to get to liking these things that I should order these appetizers; they look so yummy!

I probably wouldn't order buffalo (I'm with Shan on this one--is it gamey? Cause I can be weird about gamey.) but it would be right up Brandon's alley! I am boring and pretty much stick to fish/seafood (not oysters or mussels, generally), chicken, and pork. I will eat other things if coaxed. I'm not even a fan of hamburgers because I don't like how most beef tastes. We eat turkey burgers at home.

And now I'm just rambling.
I know you're very shocked:laughing:.

Excellent AP review !! I am certain my DH would LOVE this restaurant, but I am not sure the kids would like anything there. I am sure we will get a chance to try it sometime .... I hope. We ARE staying at Wilderness Lodge in September.

Ahhhhhh! That amazing deliciousness makes me sad that I cancelled our Artist Point ADR!
That is the one thing I know for sure will be happening on our next next trip!!

Thank you for the awesome review!

You have officially convinced me to go to Artist Pointe. Not that I never wanted to, just hadn't made it there. Everything looks so yummy. :goodvibes

I love the fact that Wingnut had brussel sprouts! I love them, but I can honestly say I've never seen them offered at a standard restaurant. A shame really.

Caught up!

Loved the beet app at the Artist Point. It was really yummy, although I could have eaten twice the portion. :rolleyes1

Denny grows beets in his garden and they are truly the most fab beets ever. They would make wingnut drool (or stick out his tongue).

I think WL is one of those resorts that I have to be in the mood for. When I stayed there in May a few years ago it felt forced to me. I am hoping that it holds more appeal to me in October. I really wanted to stay there in December to get the whole Christmas effect.

Glad you enjoyed AP. It's a great restaurant. BTW - we really enjoyed the Bistro. Wonderful meal and experience.

Another great restaurant review :thumbsup2 AP looks wonderful. Also nice to hear you guys had such a nice waiter too. That always helps to have a really nice meal!

The last time we ate at AP was in 2006, and we really enjoyed the meal. I'm very happy to see that it is still as good as we remembered! I've love to return one of these days, but I won't do it until the kids are older, or if it is date night.

I think Wingnut's appy looks delicious, but I adore oysters! I'm not really sure about beets. The one time I tried them they tasted like dirt (which I obviously didn't love), but maybe I should give them a second chance.

Your buffalo looks delicious, and as a fellow brussel sprout lover I am really happy to see them on the plate (I think they are an under-appreciated veggie!).

Thank you for the detailed review!

Latecomer, here, but I am really enjoying your trip-slash-dining report! I am a HUGE Muppets fan, also! :thumbsup2
