Today my dd fell down the stairs. I can't believe i didn't close the gate, i thought i did but it was so careless. She is fine, the stairs are well padded and the carpet thick.

I will now be gate obsessed.... feel like the worst new mommy in the world.

No matter what devices we come up with to keep kids from doing such things, they'll find a way to bump their heads!

She's fine, that's the important thing :)

All parents make mistakes. Just make sure you don't make the same ones over and over again! :)

Bottom line, don't be so hard on yourself. Just as a child learns from new experiences, so do parents.

OMG! My DD's are now 6 and 8, and can I tell you about stories like this! Have no fear, as she gets older you'll forget about this mishap as others prevail!

My DD burned her finger tips all 10 of them at 16 months old, there was 15 adults standing around her, there was a "black bart" little cooker about 10 feet from us, she walked over to it, bent down and tried to pick it up

you want to talk about a worst mommy award!

Then there's the time that DD6 was about 2, I was anal about them wearing shoes outside, because I didnt want them to step on something...one day I was done fighting her to keep them on, and finally let her go barefoot- well wudnt ya know it, she stepped on a bee...stung her right where your baby toe meets her foot.

Please dont beat yourself up too much over this....your not the first mom to "goof"

OMG!!! Your daughter is BEAUTIFUL!!!! I'm glad she's alright. My son fell down the stairs once when he was about 9mos old. We were at my sister's house and he managed to climb up the stairs w/o anyone noticing (don't know why the gate was open). All of a sudden I turned around to see him fall all the way down about 12 steps. He was wearing a red shirt and all I saw was this red "ball" tumbling down. Fortunately he was OK, he just cried for a few minutes. Don't worry these things happen. You are not a terrible mom!!!

Don't be too hard on yourself! The main thing is that she is okay! As hard as you try you can't protect them from everything! You can do everything right and they are still going to find a way to get themselves in trouble! My DD now 3 is a little monkey! She was climbing the back of the sofa and before I could get to her or tell her no down she went. She scraped her back on the window sill. It broke my heart; and I felt awful! She cried and told me about her boo boo! It's the worst feeling in the world!

This doesn't make you a bad mommy; it makes you a mommy! Welcome to the club; we all have days like this!

Here's a little pixie dust to make you feel better!

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Thanks everyone you certainly made me feel better. I guess things like this are the joy of being a mommy. I cried more than her that's for sure. She just sat in my lap and wanted me to read Mr Brown Can Moo.... i was bawling the whole time.

OMG........I do believe she's the cutest little thing I've ever seen!

Don't beat yourself up. She's fine, and loves her mommy more than words can describe.

NO, NO!!! You are NOT a bad Mommy! Let me tell you MY story......

My DS - who is 2 years old, sleeps with DH and myself (we put him in bed when he was terribly sick at 4 months old and he has never left!) and he has always been a restless sleeper.

When he was about 16 months old, he ROLLED OFF my HUGE King sized bed! (this thing is about 4 feet off the ground!:earseek: ) All I remember when I woke up was little feet going over the edge!:( I was in a panic and jumped straight up, screaming all the way!) My husband almost had a heart attack. When I got to DS he was crying and crying but was OK.

We now have about 10 king sized pillows beside the bed and two comforters on top of them.

So who wins the worst Mommy award?......ME!::yes::

Your daughter is beautiful::yes::

In no way are you a bad mother. You simply made a mistake and it won't be your last or your biggest more than likely ;) She is ok and I'm sure you cured the boo boo with LOTS of hugs kisses and I love you's too ::yes::

I remember those types of tears...when my DD4 was a baby she used to play in my dressing area with a few toys on the floor while I was getting ready for work. Since I was getting ready for work I was using my curling iron (I can already see the heads shaking and the gasps:eek: ). Maddie picked that moment and that day to learn to pull herself up...sadly she chose to do so by pulling the cord to the curling iron. :( I was right there - would have never left her in the room with it - but it fell on top of her before I could scream bloody murder! I picked it up threw it and held her so close I thought she would POP! Off to the ER we went - me sure all the way I'd be locked up for abuse and being "the worst mom ever". My darling angel girl had 2nd degree burns on her chin, her upper arm and her shoulder:( :(

The Dr. said this was actually more common than anyone imagines. She also said that the reason Maddie had 3 burns and they were so servere is b/c when an infant is burned they don't have the instinct to pull back - instead they curl around thr object ....which is exactly what she did. I of course have NEVER used a curling iron again!! She has no scaring except for slight discoloration on her upper arm which I think only I can see;) but that day will forever haunt me.

All mother's understand exactly how you feel and you are not alone....as long as you love her and she feels that love - you can not possibly be a bad mother ::yes::

Hug her a little tighter tonight as I'm sure you are already doing...and remember - NO curling irons ;)

just wanted to welcome you to the bad mommy club with me as president!!!!(Not saying you are a bad mommy ofcourse!!) When my dd was a year old i was holding her and walking down our basement steps when i lost my footing the third from the top step and fell with her in my arm--i was so scared when i stopped falling--atleast i had her in my arms where i think i kinda cushioned her! I was so stiff and sore for a week!

I am so glad your dd is alright! There will be more moments that you feel like a bad mommy--i do almost weekly!!;) you just have to take a deep breath and know everything will be alright and you are a excellent mommy!!!

Welcome to motherhood! I'm sure you're a great mom and she's adorable!

We all have our "bad mommy" moments. Just wait until she starts to talk and you hear your words, same inflection and everything come out of her mouth. The first time you hear her tell her doll "I'm sorry you had to act ugly, but now you need to got sit in the time out chair" you will simply want to curl up and die!:(

Don't be so hard on yourself! Kids will be kids, and it probably won't be her last bump on the head. Glad she's okay!

Well, mine are 9, 7, and 1, and I wouldn't know which "bad mommy" story to tell you first! Not that I really have THAT many, but things happen, even if you're ultra-careful. Okay, here's one of my favorites...

We had just moved Buzz (then 2) up to his "big boy bed", which of course had rails on it. We tucked him in, and left the room. Well, I'm next door in Belle's room, when I hear Thud! Waaah! So, I know what happened, I race down the hall, throw open the door...and promptly whack him in the head with it! ARRGH! He was fine after he calmed down, and I can chuckle over it now, but I felt absolutely awful.

She survived, you'll survive and be more careful next time. Just wait until she's older and you have such fun things as jumping down the stairs and breaking an arm (Belle), doing a cartwheel and breaking an arm (Belle again, same arm), falling off a playset (both kids), falling into the pool...

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories, i feel a lot better about it now that i know that things like this happen to a lot of mommies.

Hang in there, you are doing fine. Just make sure you don't fall, you;ll bounce harder than the kids do.

And she is beautiful!!! ::yes::

No stories to share, just wanted to say that you have an absolutely beautiful little girl!!! :)
