I want to take my grandson to Disny in Nov, he will be 9 1/2 at that time. We have gone with other grandkids but I would like to try trips with just me and one grandchild.

My question is: He loves the fast rides but I have bad back (and to be honest I don't like the fast rides) Can I walk up with him in line and he can go on the ride and I can wait for him to come back?

No problem! Our last trip, my just-turned 9yo wanted to do her faves, Rock N Rollercoaster and Tower of Terror, but her "ride buddy" (11yoDD) had been sick and didn't feel up to it. We walked with her through the queue, got her boarded and went through the chicken exit. The ToT CMs got a HUGE kick out of this little girl marching up when they called for "solo riders"! :lmao:

I didn't think there would be a problem as long as the child wanted to do it that way. thanks

My DD7 and DS10 rode alone on ToT at DL in November, I just went all the way through the queue with them and stayed until they were actually boarding the ride, then met them at the exit.

The only thing I would suggest is that you talk with him ahead of time about the possibility of a ride breakdown/delay and what to expect in those situations. That way, on the off chance something does happen while he's riding alone he won't get scared and panic.

On that note, it might be nice and added assurance for him if he had a cell phone on the rides where it is possible to carry one. That way, if he can't immediately see you coming off, he won't panic.

The age to ride alone at WDW is 7 - children under 7 must be accomplanied by a responsbile adult.

Your plan sounds fine, I have done it a few times with my oldest using the "chicken exits". First we walk around to the exit together, usually in a gift shop and we decide on a meeting spot. Then we go back and wait the line, I stay as long as possible in line and then we meet at the designated spot.

ITA with pp's, have a discussion about the possibility of a ride stopping. Sometimes its breif other times not, it dosen't happen often but you don't want him to panic.

Great ideas thank all. Knew I could count on you for help.

My daughter was 9 last year when we went and she loved riding the RockN roller coaster by herself. Everyone around her was very impressed that she did it along too.
