Age for VMK?

Sometimes playing hockey outside the words slip out but we always know to apologize and we do respect neighbors and their property and they respect us and our right to play. So if I had to say so i'd say our neighbor hood is indeed a great one. But great doesn't happen on it's own it takes great people to make something great.

if you say "it takes a village" I will scream :rotfl:

That's beautiful. I wish everyone could live in your neighborhood. Even Wally and the Beaver's hood had it's Eddie Haskell. :rolleyes2

You know, I would not say my neighborhood is perfect, we have a coupel of bad seeds, but even they know better than to do that kind of stuff. My neighborhood is actually more like the neighborhood I grew up in. Everyone knows everyone and your kids friends mothers will rat your kid out to you, and vice-versa. We expect it, so while kids are still kids, they are brought up in a "neighborhood" environment, as opposed to the individualistic environment that I have found in other neighborhoods. We did have to move a couple of times until I bought the house we are in now. This is what I worked for, and I pay through the nose to live here, barely able to afford it, but my children are worth it. I could pay less somewhere else, alot less, but I would rather have them grow up in an area I do not have to worry about them so much because I know - it doesn't take a village - but it does help if the village has your back.

My dear, it is actually right on topic. It is all about wanting what is best for your children, and online should be no different than letting them play out in the neighborhood. If you would not let your kids play with people who act like they do in VMK, why would you let them play with people on VMK?

I think it's about a really cool free game for kids. It has its occassional teachable moments for parents, but all in all it's relatively tame and a lot of fun. I let my kids play it because I know that meeting a few rude people in an online game will not turn them into rude people too. So besides having fun in a virtual Disney World they learn how to deal with people, the good and the bad.

Now I'm not going to go so far as to say that VMK is completely safe. I've seen kids communicating enough information on VMK to be found on MySpace. Parents have to be involved. But VMK is not, in my firm opinion, something that you need to shelter your children from. Supervise, yes.
