Hey... I know last year my younger daughter wasn't ready for HHN. This year she has said she is willing to go. She knows it isn't anything like MNSSHP...that she did not want this year.... said it was "dumb" (sorry MNSSHP fans  ) She will be 12 in 3 weeks and is in 7th grade. She is the youngest in the family.... 16 yr old sister & 18 yr old brother...she has heard language that most 16-18 use (as well as all of the friends that come in & out of this house)....I have just read on the IOA Central boards that they aren't reccomending under 14? May be 12 for boys? What would the difference be between a 12 girl vs boy? I don't think I am making a mistake taking her, what are some of your feelings????? She has seen the R rated moves when her older siblings have watched them...not that she sits & watches them, but she has "seen" them on it their rooms. She goes to PG-13 movies. She isn't a "prissy princess" type, she is a tom-boy....loves animals & sports....but is afraid of some bugs & reptiles (ie: crickets, spiders & snakes)....but not afraid of blood, guts and gorey things. She takes care of her 2 dogs (a shepard & a rotty/gordon setter mix) as well as her turtle. I hope I gave enough info on her personality...what are your thoughts????? I usually don't ask these type of questions, but figured if there are any parents out there with a simular type of 12 girls & they went, what were their reactions???

My son will be 12 in three weeks and we decided to forego HHN for a few years. We are staying at Universal but will be going over to MNSSHP on the 31st.

Was that his decision? This decision is hers...I think she may be ready for it since she has the older siblings... and she is now saying MNSSHP is "dumb"....believe me, I have tried talking her into that one to see if she would change her mind. I have had her read reviews on both & she is still saying HHN... She has already said that she will not go on any roller coasters except ROTM and the Flying Unicorns ....she hates upside down coasters...and will not do Dr Doom's again....

I would say go for it.... As long as she knows its not real and I mean in the 7th grade she is mature enough

I am taking my daughter and her stepsister next weekend. They are both 11. I think they will be fine. We took her two years ago, she didnt go into any haunted houses, she was pretty scared, but confident this year.

Remember, all kids are different. Its not like they wake up one morning and it magically *POOF* they're ready for HHN. If you think you're daughter is ready for the event, and if she thinks she is ready for the event, by all means let her go.

Having met your daughter, she seems like a real level headed young woman. If she says she can handle it, then I would let her go. I'm one who urges not taking kids but your daughter knows Universal inside and out. It isn't as scary if you know your way around. She knows the difference between reality and fantasy and really does seem to be quite mature for her age. If it becomes too much for her she can just hit the rides.

You are right...she does know the parks... and I am glad you responded, you have meet her & have seen how see is. I think I am doing the right thing.... she just recently expressed the interest in going....it was just weeks ago that she said she didn't think she would like it.. buy hey... after going through Charley (she cried when she heard it was headed right towards us at a cat 4!), Francis (she insisted on going outside while we were getting the bands to see what it was like, (Ivan big time scare) and Jeanne (she went to sleep and asked me to wake her if the winds got really bad).... she handled all of them ok and that is real life!!! She can handle the make believe.....::yes::

My daughter is turning 11 next week and both my son and I thought that she could have handled it. She chickened out because she thought they would be puking blood, gore and guts. DS16 was a little graphic. My concern was the sexual inuendo at B&T but there really isn't anything that offensive this year. I took my son when he was 5 but we just went to see Robosaurus and ride a few rides.

Thanks for your input... the only thing that did concern me was the sex thing with the Vampire Castle.... heard too many reviews...I know she has seeen 1/2 naked people on TV.... I just didnt' want her to see the person doing something to themselves (if you get what I mean) ...and I had heard they did????

from what i hear there is no visible ************ within castle vampyre.

What it actually is, is a feamle vampire lying on a bed kinda writhing around and moaning. she isnt actually imitating touching herself. shes just imitating that shes pleasured.

hope that helps.

My view personally would take her. some kids are ready at a earlier age than others. i know that i woulda been ready to go when i was young to because 1. i loved horror movies at a very early age. and 2. becuase i could distinguish between reality and fantasy at a young age.

if she thinks shes ready then let her go. and if she gets scared ease off the houses, do a few rides and just tell her to remind herself their just actors.

I went through Vampyr twice and the first time the vamp was lying, writhing and beckoning seductively as a result to my reactions to the sight/setting. The second time a different vamp was sitting and again trying to seduce without self manipulation. I think they play to their specific audience. They would probably not try to seduce my daughter.

Thanks again.... I just ordered 4 of the 6 tickets I needed. I have to get my daughters pass out to log in her number so I can get the discount on hers as well.... doing that next... I am psyched :Pinkbounc We got our hotel (Double Tree Club Lake Buena Vista) from SkyAuction... bid was only $2.00 then the $32 tax & service fee = only $34 per night...with tax!!!! We will be going on the 14th. Anyone else??? On Friday the 15th my older daughter & 2 of her friends are going to a concert a the House of Blues, I may hit up Epcot's Food & Wine Fest with my younger one & her friend  I am a happy camper now ::yes:: :wave2:
