Age 9 cut off for childrens menu?

This is a concern for me as well. Last year we visited after this new pricing went into effect and DD 13 was able to order off the kids meal when she wanted. I did however email WDW about this and got the standard form email back. I will email again this year. This is one change that has really "got my goat" (since I can't use the word I really want LOL) After all these years it just means WDW won't be getting all my money for all of the sit down and buffets we usually do. I understand there are kids that can eat their weight in food but there are just as many that can't. DS is now 10 and considered an adult for the buffets. There goes a couple of our favorite meals until they get old enough to actually eat $30 worth of food.

I know what you mean. We wanted to do HDD again but it will now cost $275 for us because of our 3 "adults". My other DS will be an adult next year.

The other day my DD was looking at menus online with me & saw the age for children. I explained to her that since she turned 10 she's considered an adult at WDW. She answers back "but I don't want to be an adult!"

We were in Disney last week and my 12 year old daughter always wanted to order off the children's menu, but was sensitive about doing so because she saw that it said that it was for children 9 and under.

Thus, at every sit down restaurant we went to (YC Galley, Jiko, Citrico's, Palio and Artist Point), I told the waiter/waitress her age asked if she could order off the kid's menu. It was never a problem and I never got charged more than the regular price for her meal.

Hi jjohnson, I just checked my reciept and on 2/19/06 I was charged $11.99 for my 12 year old son. Now I do remember them asking me his age (he could never pass for younger!) before I was seated,but my waiter Gavin did not ask me and there is no age on the reciept it just says KM Buffet and Adult Dinner Buffet. So I guess it could have been a mistake on the waiters part or being that it was just myself and my son he felt bad charging for 2 adults?? I did check the Disney Menu site and it says ages 3-9 $11.99. However -when my son and I (again just the 2 of us) had breakfast at Cape May I was charged for 2 adults.And again I was only asked his age at the time I checked in to be seated. I also have the DDE card so this makes the Buffet prices a little easier for me to swallow for a 12 year old. My son is also a VERY good eater and tries a variety of food,besides a cheeseburger he does not really eat items on the Childrens Menu anymore. Sorry if I mislead you as far as $$ at Cape May. It's fine. I have DDE too & it does help. My children do eat well but when a buffet dinner averages around $160+ for us I'd rather do a sitdown.

When we took my neice in November, age 8---almost 9, I noticed that for her the portions were not real big. If he eats like a "horse" , I might recommend at least looking at the adult menu to see if there's anything he might like. My niece and I did end up sharing some of my dinners. Just my observation. Also, we were there 9 days and by the end she was getting very sick of mac and cheese, chicken fingers, and hamburgers, even though she likes them allot.

Did they at least give her an 'adult' size portion? My kids always want to order off of the kids menu too. At least at the counter services they don't seem to ask (at least they haven't in the past). I usually go up and order for us and just bring it back to the table. Sometimes I even get food from the kids menu (if I don't want a lot).

If there are chicken fingers, mac and cheese, etc on the adult menu and a 10 yr old wants it that is great, however; if there aren't these things on the adult menu then it is hardly fair to not allow them to order it off the kids menu. If they charge double for the child size do they increase the size of the meal? That would be the fair thing to do!! My soon to be 10 yr old and his friend (also soon to be 10) live off chicken fingers and mac n cheese, they both probably would finish an adult sized portion but what if it isn't offered?

Funny you should say JUNIOR. I had just mentioned them doing JUNIOR pricing while was on the phone with them this morning. They said well you know a 12 year old boy eats a lot more than you think. I said I understan he eats more than a small child but he doesn't eat as much as an adult. Hopefully they will but in a change sometime.

When you make your ADR's don't the CM's ask your kids ages? They did with me. Also, at many podiums, they confirmed the ages of my kids. I noticed this especially at places with fixed prices like CP, Cape May Cafe, and Ohana, but Rose and Crown did it too.

I wonder how they justify charging a 10 year the adult price at the buffets that include beer and wine? I can see the price for an adult but why would you charge a 10 year old the same price? I just cant understand their reasoning that a "12 year old buy can eat more then you think"..give me a break

Junior pricing would be such a great thing...especially for the buffets and character meals and for the Dining Plan.

I was considering getting the Dining Plan this trip, but my niece will just be 10 and there is no way I was willing to pay almost $40 a day for her. I would have probably done it with Junior pricing of around $25. I mean to jump from $10.99 a day to $37.99 a day at age 10 to me is just ridiculous. Same for the buffets, we mainly do the breakfast ones and while my niece isn't all that picky, she doesn't eat much. A couple eggs and a Mickey waffle is about it for her and she prefers water 99% of the time over juice or pop. So instead of doing the 4 character meals I was thinking of, we are just doing one, possibly two now. I really hope Disney re-thinks the age thing and either ups the cut off age or introduces a junior price.

I didnt mean buffet per se..but there are at least a few dinner meals at Disney that include beer and wine. The Hoop de doo is one and I think the Backyard Barbecue is another...
