Age 4 & under soccer - anyone know about?

There is a huge soccer field near our house. They have a fall soccer league for ages 4 and under. It's once a week practice with a game on Saturday. The games are 3 players against 3 with no goal keeper. I think it would be fun for DS and teach him about teams and such. I don't think it would be very competitive. Anyone ever done something like this?

My DS6 started playing this style up in Mebane before we moved. He played for 2 years there. It was a great introduction for both him and us. Now that we have moved, they play a full team with goalies. It is so much fun to watch them at that age! Enjoy!

my dd did this last year & it was a blast. It was so much fun watching the kids & dd had so much fun too. I would highly recommend it ;)

We did this for my oldest son. It was a good experience all around. I think that you will have crazies in any sport- there were parents who kept score and screamed at kids who made mistakes. Most weren't like that though.

My son played on a 4 and 5 year old team last year. He had a lot of fun. They did have a goalie, but they never kept score. It was great exercise and a great opportunity for him to socialize.

We did soccer at 3. It was okay. The kids had some fun and that was nice but overall I would wait until 5.

Have low expectations - as in some kids never clue into chasing the ball. But it can be fun. Most kids won't learn much about teams either (its just too advanced for the average three year old to understand "I'm Open"), but it can be fun.

We've played soccer for several years now. My youngest dd started at three years old, my ds at four. As someone else said don't have to high of expectations. Some days the kids played and played other days they just didn't. I've seen kids on a team only play one time during the season--kids choice not parent or coach.

At this age it is very very low key and encouraging for the kids. The goal is usually just to get them out and play.

All three of my boys started playing soccer when they were 4, they all loved it. I have two still playing.

It is a great way for kids to meet others and parents as well.

DD6 played when she was 4. I think it's a good time to introduce them to the idea of playing in a team sport. At that age, it should be more about teaching them the foundational skills VS. whether who wins or loses. When she played, it was very LOW competitiveness and parents were great. There was really no emphasis on winning whatsoever. With that said, I think it all depends on who the coach is.....

We have our 4yr old registered to play Rec Soccer in Mebane this fall...:yay: Our 13yr old is still playing rec and he loves it and has so much fun. He plays also for middle school and the rec is a lot less serious and carefree!:thumbsup2
