Has anybody stayed at AFVC properties that were wheelchair accessible? If so, were they adequate?

:welcome: to the DISboards!

I assume you are asking about the Shades of Green resort. It is not WDW owned but very close to the MK area resorts. I do not have personal experience there, but from reading others reports I understand the resorts rooms are larger than WDW resort rooms so that leads me to believe you should have no problem moving about in the room. I'm sure if you contact SOG they can give you specifics of the ADA room features, and don't hesitate to ask about anything specific so you'll know what to expect. I found this on the website:

ADA Options ... Shades of Green has guest rooms designed to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. You will find many dining and transportation options designed for our guest's enjoyment and convenience. Our ADA friendly resort includes standard oversized rooms with all the amenities and features you would expect. Our oversized elevators, special transportation options and multiple ramps give you full resort access and peace of mind.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thanks for the welcome!

We've actually stayed at SOG on a previous trip, and their ADA rooms are fine. I was asking about some of the other properties in the area that the Armed Forces Vacation Club offers: Space-A properties at $349/week, which really seems to make sense for us, as long as our daughter can access the rooms, and the bathroom in particular. Their site (afvclub.com) is somewhat confusing, in that I can specify 'accessible' rooms in my search, but then among the properties displayed, a couple specifically state that their properties aren't suitable for handicapped folks.

I see what you mean. Interesting. At least a couple specified "Equipment for the deaf: Yes" so possibly the website doesn't differentiate various accessible needs, and that's why it appears when you check off "wheelchair accessible" but they aren't truly. None of the 5 I looked at just now gave much detail at all about accessibility. I think it would definitely require a phone call to get more details.

Hopefully someone else can share experience with one of these properties.

We've done 3 AFVC resorts in the greater Orlando area last year. We don't need an accessible room, but what I did to further research the resort was to look it up by name on Trip Advisor. Maybe there's more info for you there
