Afternoon tea - Should I try to coerce DH?

This is something I've really wanted to try. DH is usually very easy going and ready to try just about anything. Can anyone who has done this give me an idea about the atmosphere and what to expect? Would this be too "feminine" an activity to expect my husband to endure? Any guys out there done this and (gasp) liked it? I'd like to be able to tell my husband that it would be nice and relaxing.

We did afternoon tea years ago when it was still at Rose and Crown - my husband still talks about it and how much he enjoyed it.

My husband did it with me last year, and we both really enjoyed it. There were several other guys there with their wives (or girlfriends) and they seemed to be enjoying it as well. My husband really loves hot tea, so he thought it was great. It was very relaxing and nice - without being at all stuffy or formal. The food was all really yummy, too! It felt like we were a million miles away from all the hustle and bustle of the theme parks. They do use beautiful china and the little restaurant is full of flowers, but it still didn't feel so "girly" that my husband felt uncomfortable. It was a really nice experience.

Thanks Karel and GEM. I think I'll show your responses to DH. I tried to find more info about this but I can't. Do you know if they still do Afternoon Tea at the Garden View Lounge?

Yep. They still do it. Here is a link to the menu and some info from Deb Willis's site.

And, they DO take Priority Seatings. I would reccomend you make a PS if you plan to go. When we went last December, we had a PS and I'm glad we did because there was a bit of a wait without them. The room is pretty small and they can't fit too many people in at once. It's great. I'm sure you will both love it.

We contemplated afternoon tea at the GF as we walked through to our room after a morning in the MK. It looked amazing but was pricey ($24.50 a head I think). Tip for any concierge guests- the same hot scones, fresh cream, sandwiches and trifle were available back at the lounge! We saved ourselves a pretty penny.

BTW there were a few men in the GF having afternoon tea and they looked to be enjoying themselves.

I was thinking of doing the "Tea for Two." It costs $35.00 and includes tea sandwiches, scones, jam tarts and fresh pastries with a choice of two teas.

Too bad we're not staying at GF concierge. But, I'll pay $35 for the tea and save $600 on my hotel room. ;)

Thanks everyone for your responses. I think DH is going to do this with me. It will be my birthday after all!!

Be sure and tell them it's your birthday! We went on my birthday last year and I got a beautiful little decorated cupcake and a rose when we had finished our tea.

Just keep in mind that it kind of depends on what kind of DH you have. DH was golfing several times this trip, so I think he was very willing to go to the GF afternoon tea as a way of saying "Thanks" for letting him golf so much. Well, I could barely control my laughter as I watched "Tim the Tool Man Guy" try to look comfortable at the Grand Floridian Tea.

Good point, Simba's Mom. But I'm thinking . . .

. . . since I rode ToT (TWICE!!) with my deranged, lunatic husband, I think he can endure an hour's worth of "slightly girlie" tea with me.

Whaddaya' think? ;)

I think he'll do it as long as he doesn't have to hold out his pinkie finger while he sips. LOL :p

I went to the GF tea with DW a few years ago and enjoyed it. It was very relaxing and in a beautiful setting. I'm not trying to sound like Mr. Macho, but am 6' 2" and 230 #'s and am a professional boxing judge. I felt very comfortable at the tea.

Thanks Gary M. I used your post to persuade DH to give it a try. I appreciate all the feedback!
