Afternoon Tea at Grand Floridian

My daughter will be celebrating her 5th birthday while we are in Disneyworld in May, and I'm thinking of taking her to do the afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian. I would looooove to do the Princess Tea package, but WOW... it's way too expensive. I gave her a choice of a tea party, BBB, or pirate cruise, and she chose the tea party. Has anyone done this before? Will it be fun for her, or am I wasting my time. Should I just cough up the $250 to do the princess tea party - which I know she would absolutely love??

The afternoon tea is very nice, but it is simply tea and such with you and her in the restaurant. Nothing really special about it over a meal somewhere else.

I would think BBB or even the pirate would be more fun. Have you explained to her what the tea involves.

My girls love the afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian. They had a blast. One of my DD does not lke PB&J, so they made her just PB.

I don't think you need to do the "Princess" tea, you can just make a reservation for the regular tea (I think it is from 2-4).
I think the most expensive option at that time is 25-30 dollars, so you definitely would spend less money.

Was your daughter excited about the idea of having tea, or did she know that the princesses were going to be there?
If she is more interested in the princesses, maybe you could make a different restaurant reservation such as the Norway (sp)Akershus in EPCOT, Cinderella's Royal Table in the Magic Kingdom, or 1900 Park Fare for dinner.

I totally agree with this.

I took my daughter to My Perfectly Princess and it was very special but I can understand the price being exorbitant.

Regular afternoon tea will be special for a little girl
You could even call Disney Florist and have a special floral/balloon arrangement made up for the occasion. And/or order an extra special item thru the GF Bakery like the Cinderella Slipper:

I took my youngest DS to the Tea last year and he loved it. He enjoyed the little sandwiches and the little desserts too and we both dressed up for it. (Don't ask...)

But for a little girl I'd go for it and book the Perfectly Princess tea. My nieces went there last summer (ages 5 and 3) and loved it so much they talked about it for the rest of the trip.

Do you mean the regular afternoon tea or the Wonderland Tea Party.

My kids loved the Wonderland Tea party and it's much less expensive than the Princess Tea. I think the Wonderland tea party is about $40 and both Alice and the Mad Hatter are there having tea and playing games with the kids.

Although we love the regular afternoon tea too I think for a 5 year old girl she would like the Wonderland Tea Party at the GF even more.

I never said anything about princesses, so she may be just fine with the regular tea party and maybe order a balloon bouquet and cinderella slipper as jonsonet suggested. I'm sure It will be magical.... after all, we'll be in Disney!!

I think you're absolutely correct ( I love when the children are too young yet to have read all the guidebooks and disboards ) she won't miss what she doesn't know she's missing and she will totally enjoy what she IS experiencing. I take pride in doing all kinds of disney knockoffs (from the BBB bun w/glitter and crown -- hairpieces can be purchased ala carte, to the afternoon tea with DD dressed as her own princess, to homemade princess costumes) this has allowed us to experience and travel there so much more than if we'd gone in and blown our budget on just one trip. She'll have a magical time.
