OK - been twice before in October but leave next Sun 29th for the first time during the summer.

Never had to take afternoon breaks before and I've read all the advice and comments. Planning on getting to the parks for opening and really looking forward to being there at night.

So.....what time do those that take breaks usually do so ? and what do you generally do ? 1-5, 2-5 or something else ? Staying close to WDW in Kissimmee if that makes a difference.

Gary,

I don't think it matters too much what time you take your break, do it to fit in with your schedules.

We normally leave the parks around 1 pm and go back to the hotel pool. We leave the pool around 4 pm quick shower and back we go.

On some days if the parks are open late, maybe we will eat early dinner somewhere away from the parks then go back in around 7 pm.

If we are visiting Animal Kingdom then we can normally get away from there by around 2 pm then maybe go to Epcot in the evening for dinner.

Garry, I think when you take breaks depends completely on how much stamina the weakest person in your group has.
We've got two toddlers who are completely tired out by 12 noon. So it's off to the villa for a nap and some lunch. We usually head back out by 3 or 4.00pm, not to return until quite late (10-11). But even without a 3 and 4 year old, I still liked leaving for a few hours, maybe 1-4.00, just to cool down and maybe have a cheaper/nicer meal than can be had in the parks.
Hope that's of any use???

Thanks for your comments.

DDs are 9 and 11 this time and know what they want to do/see. We'll play it by ear.

IMHO the hottest part of the day seems to feel about 3-5 in the afternoon. Maybe this is due to the humidity building up, maybe the heat gets absorbed into the ground during the morning and by early afternoon the ground starts giving some back. Whichever I think that with kids that age they should be good to last till 1.30-2.00 ( particularly if you schedule to be on "indoor"rides in that last hour). Obviously it depends on the park's closing times but even returning to the parks at 6.00 or 7.00 would allow you a good run at getting things done as many of the other guests will have either wilted by then or trying to get fed. IF your kids are not bothered too much about the parades this can also be a good time to get a lot accomplished in a short time as many of the other guests will spend up to an hour sitting saving a good spot for the parades.

We never take breaks from the park, unless staying onsite, really cant see the point,Would advise to find a nice shady spot with icecreams and cold drinks and relax and take in the surroundings.

my youngest 2 were same age as yours when we visited lst time. After about 3 days we found out that taking breaks was much better for us.

My kids definately don't nap but usually hit the pool . this cools them down much better than sitting in the shade. We also snack ( we stay in a villa ) & then eat after leaving the parks for the 2nd time.

we're going in August and are definately planning to take breaks most days.
