Afternoon breaks with little ones when tent camping

Afternoon breaks were very helpful to us last trip and I always hear that they are really almost necessary for families with little ones.

It just occurred to me that there is no tv in a tent, no way to really keep the kids inside, etc. I don't know how we're going to do our afternoon breaks this time around, especially if it is chilly outside, etc.

Has anyone ever had experience with afternoon breaks when tent camping in late fall/winter?

Thanks

We take a TV and small DVD player when we tent camp. Also, the last time we camped at Ft. Wilderness, they upgraded us to a site with cable hook up. Didn't bring the TV Cable though so we didn't use it.

Gee, we never had that problem. When they were tired they just collapsed. At other times they played games. As for winter camping, since we're in Buffalo, didn't do much of that when the kids were young, and we didn't bring them to WDW until they were a little older in the 90s and never stayed with them in FW although they've visted their aunt and uncle there. I guess I'm pretty useless giving advice on this topic, but it's never stopped me before.

How old are your kids? It's true that they don't settle down quite as easily as with a tv, but you can bring other quiet things, or play on the playground a bit then rest. It could be warm enough to swim.

We have books on tape that the kids like. Also DH reads to them. Harry Potter puts us to sleep all the time!

Things will be closing early, you might find that a break doesn't work that well.

We've been with babies/kids from newborn to seven at this point, and we've never taken breaks at our resort:eek: ! Our babies/kids have always been able to sleep wherever we were, so they get naps during the day. If someone falls asleep, we either all shop or eat or we split up and someone stays with the napper. We've never had tantrums or meltdowns:cheer2: .

If you are set on taking breaks (even though the parks will be closing fairly early), I recommend a portable dvd player :thumbsup2 .
