We're having an Escape Wedding in December 2008 and we're trying to decide how the timeline will work. We're trying to come up with a nice place to have everyone for lunch/dinner at and we're narrowing it down to a few places.

I heard great things about Shula's Steakhouse. Has anyone done this? (leaning toward this) :woohoo:

I also heard someone mention Yachtsman Steakhouse. popcorn::

..and then I stumbled upon Il Mulino at the Swan/Dolphin as I was viewing their website. Italian food sounds great (never heard reviews on the place) but I haven't heard this mentioned anywhere either! :teacher:

Any recommendations, pictures, etc? How much does it cost to have a private room for less than 20 at Shula's Steakhouse? :grouphug:

Thank you for reading!!

To be honest, We considered both Shulas and the Yachtsman.

My mom (who has never been to Disney) suggested that Shulas is a chain and that we might want to stick with something that is exclusively Disney.

We chose the California Grill but we were extremely dissatisfied there (our palates are more McDonalds than CG:rotfl: ).

I can't help you with the other choices 'cause I've never been to either of them.

You might consider asking on the Restaurants Board...some of the foodies over there will be able to give you some really good opinions.

As for the cost, sorry...I don't know the answer to that either. Someone here might, but it might be just as easy to call and ask them!

I know if you go to the Swan and Dolphin's web site you can print off the menus for Shula's. I know at one point I had all their group menus. We looked at them for an option for our rehearsal dinner. Since our rehearsal is going to be earlier in the day we switched to FRESH also at the Dolphin.

We have eaten at Shula's and the food was definitely excellent, but a lot of $$$, we talking around 40 to 50.00 per steak and that did not include any sides, however, the service was beyond wonderful....

Also the atmosphere there is guy oriented, a lot of dark wood and leather, the menu (as I remember) was actually written on a football.....

As for the Italian place, when we ate there it went by another name, but was very romantic with strolling violins, etc. The food was good Italian but I don't remember it as being anything outstanding....

Good luck with your hunt for the perfect place..... Maybe somewhere like Citrico's at the Grand Floridian or even one of Emeril's two restaurants in Orlando?

Have to say i love Shulas the steak very good (better then the Yachtsman IMO) but pricier and the private rooms are great (sorry don’t know the cost as i was only a guest)...

Il Mulino has wonderful food but for some the price is a bit high for Italian (it is good though)....i would probably say that they took away the romantic atmosphere that the former Italian restaurant had...and now its a bit loud...as the kitchen is right up front and there is lots of restaurant noise...

Good luck picking...the service is great at all three

Thank you so much for all the advice! I didn't realize that the prices at Shula's didn't include sides. :confused3 No wonder it's not such a popular choice for after-wedding celebrations XD

Shula's is owned by Don Shula, a former NFL player, hence the football.

Yeah, it sounds like Shula's wouldn't be a good option for the decor alone. What's the name of Emeril's restaurant?

What else have people done after the ceremony? I figured O'hana would be too loud and noisy :rotfl: We're doing O'hana for our welcome dinner, though. :goodvibes :goodvibes

The food is fantastic at Shulas, thats where we got engaged. I thought about our wedding dinner there but it is dark. We went with Yachtsman (no private room) and it was excellent. We had customized menus and the service was great. You will need to book an early or late seating though for a big group. We had to have 5:30 pm for 11 of us.

There is a great review that includes Il Mulino on the restaurant review board http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1630586

Well, it might not be quite to everyone's taste for a wedding meal, since it is primarily barbeque, but....

We did Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge. Everyone was VERY pleased with it. And the price was reasonable (I'm wanting to say it ended up being around $26 or so per person, but I don't remember for sure.)

We had a 10:00 a.m. wedding ceremony, and had our wedding luncheon at 2:30 p.m. Finding a place to have lunch around that time of day can be difficult, and finding a place that is somewhat reasonable even more so. Whispering Canyon was about the only place that fit the bill for us. Plus, we have a few picky eaters in the group, so any kind of a "fancy" menu would have probably been a problem.

One of the things we did was we asked to have the dinner menu instead of the lunch menu. It was a little more expensive, but we liked the selection on it a little better. And what they do for a wedding group like that is the all-you-can-eat skillet meal. It was really, really good, too. Plenty of food for everyone, all of it delicious, and everyone seemed to really like everything they brought out.

We gave everyone else time to change clothes before lunch, and almost everyone did take the opportunity to do so, so they didn't have to worry about getting barbeque on their good clothes. DH and I had planned for the "mess", and had arranged to have DH's mom bring aprons. Unfortunately, she insisted on giving them to me a couple of days ahead of time, and it was impossible for me to keep up with everything all day, so at the restaurant, we ended up only having one. I used it, and DH was fortunately able to keep it all off himself! I actually did well enough that I was ok without the apron anyway myself.

Oh, and the one thing that had worried me most about WCC - I know it is supposed to be a fairly rowdy themed restaurant, which wasn't exactly what I'd pictured for my wedding meal. But it fit what we needed every other way, so we just asked if they would kind of put us off to one side or something. Well, they had us in an area that was completely separate from the rest of the restaurant. The way they set things up, it was like having our own private room - sort of. On one side, we were actually open out into lobby/walkway area, but not a main area, so though a few people were walking by there now and again, it was nothing to bother us. And there was no noise at all from the rest of the restaurant to disturb us.

The only part I can't speak for is the desserts - though having also stayed at the WL, I can tell you that the Berry Cobbler is WONDERFUL!!!! But we didn't do dessert with the lunch - we had our wedding cake served with lunch instead.

So, it partly depends on what you picture for your meal. I have to say - at first, I was skeptical, because I really hadn't planned on doing foods we would at least partly be eating with our hands and such at my wedding, but... It really was good, and everyone enjoyed it so much, that I'm VERY glad that's what we chose.

Oh, osxgirl, I'm totally with ya on that one! I'm soooo not a fancy food person! In fact, if it weren't tacky to eat chicken fingers and french fries for after the ceremony I probably would do so! :rotfl:

I'm really glad you posted this about WCC. I know it's typically a rowdy place but that's so great that they were able to accomodate all of you! I love that kinda food! I was hoping to go for some "down to earth" food like either steak, Italian or barbeque but I'm so worried about messing up my wedding dress. I think I'll need a bib no matter what!
