:sad2:A few days ago I called to apply the 25% discount to our room at POP. We are staying 7 nights, 6 day park hopper w/dining. Only saved $164, which I called back to see if correct, because it didn't add up and they assured me that was correct. Another Diser suggested it was because of blackout dates(we are staying over the 4th of July) and that made sense to me. However, I just tried calling to apply the gift card offer, and they informed me if they took the discount off I applied just a few days ago, it made my total more than it was when I started out! :headache:He said when I called last time I was upgraded to a preferred room from a standard room(at a cost to me). So if they applied the gift card now, it would only be a difference of $18 from the discounted room. I kept the preferred room(after getting feedback from others, I decided this would be best with a little one), and just left the reservation as is, because I didn't want to owe more. I am getting the feeling that they did that on purpose to confuse me about how much I'm actually saving. I realize I can make this really simple, and call to downgrade to the standard room and apply the gift card for more savings, but I am tired of getting a different story every time I call. Just wanted to tell others to beware of what they are telling you, and double check what is included in your reservation when it is all said and done!

When calling to apply discounts to an existing reservation there are about 900 different things you (the consumer) has to keep top of mind to ensure that you don't get hosed.

I generally prefer creating a new reservation of exactly what I want on the offer, checking it and then checking it over again AND THEN cancelling whatever I had once I know for a fact the new reservation is correct and I have received the confirmation.

I just find that to be - less hassle. Color me crazy.

Sorry you aren't saving any more money. And the confusion from the CMs.

Hopefully this sour taste will be gone when you get to Disney and see the wonder in your children's eyes.

Make many magical memories! :cloud9:

Did you ask for this upgrade? Because when Disney upgrades you (when you don't ask) it's at no cost to you. If you asked for a preferred location, then yes, it makes perfect sense that you are now paying more per night for the room. Fourth of July is definitely HIGH SEASON, and that may be why you are not seeing a significant discount.

Aslo, you went from a discounted room with the 25% to a NON-DISCOUNTED Room during high season. Please re-read the ad for the free gift card:

January - August 2010 - Free Gift Card Offer!!

Book a 6-day, 5-night non-discounted room and ticket package at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels and get a free Disney Gift Card for stays most nights 2/15 — 3/27 and 4/11 — 8/14.

Yes you can do this online but when you call they know of any existing reservations and tell you so. Yes, they will check (if you get the right CM - I guess some can't be bothered) and then cancel the other but it seems that many are giving the runaround about applying another discount to a current reservation. I had the problem last week when I called for the bounce back rate to be applied to my Nov/Dec reservation. I did get it but after about 15 minutes on the phone.

Don't know your exact dates but for Pop preferred it is $154 a night 7/2, 7/3 and 7/4. The other nights surrounding it is $134 a night so with the 25% off you would save one night (the other 4 days) stay because of the black out days and not the whole week.

The deal is- for my whole package I booked in August my total was $2700 and some odd dollars, and now they are telling me that if they take the 25% discount off to apply the $300 gift card offer, my original total goes to over $2800 and some odd dollars. I asked how my original total changed to something higher, and after looking into it, he says I was upgraded to a preferred room when I booked the discount. I think they did that to offset some of the discount I was receiving. Why else would they do that without me asking?

I just said "heck with it!" and I called Disney back and asked to downgrade to a standard room and apply the gift card promotion instead of the 25% discount and was told they didn't have any standard rooms left under the gift card promotion, but that they could downgrade me to a standard room under the 25% discount promotion. I just don't get it! Seems like everyone else is getting a great deal except me! Of course I am grateful for the savings I am getting, but this experience has left me perplexed! :confused3 I did tell them that they upgraded me to a preferred and didn't tell me, and he just apologized. It seems they certainly aren't going to explain anything. He just kept trying to convince me to stay with the preferred, which I just may regret not doing, but I guess we will see!!!

I was going to suggest that when you called to apply the discount to your original reservation, that maybe there weren't any standard rooms available. But, if the discounted rate of the preferred room was still less than your original reservation, they made the switch. Granted they should have told you the upgrade and let you decide. But really, if you could have gotten an upgraded room for still less than your original reservation, you would have taken it anyway.

I just did the math and figured out that if I do the preferred room with the $300 card or the standard room with the discount, my savings are exactly the same. That is why they "upgraded" me to the preferred room in the first place and also why I can't downgrade to the standard with the gift card offer. I was tempted to call back AGAIN and switch back to the preferred(who knows, I still might!) but I think right now I am just leaving it ALONE! Tired of dealing with it!

WOW!!!!!

This can be explained more simply than you might think..

They upgraded your room to preferred likely because those were the rooms with the discount offer you were switching to...

And as you've discovered there are no standard rooms available on that promo. That may well have been the case when you switched? Impossible to know at this point.

Anywho, one thing to keep in mind : Just because rooms are available at a given resort doesn't necessarily mean that rooms in all room categories are available.

Make sense? I know it can seem frustrating.

Just wanted to pop in and say I managed to get airfare for $74 each way, so it kinda' makes up for the whole Disney headache I went through. I am very happy to save on airfare, so I am starting to get back my excitement for my trip. Thanks all!:goodvibes
