What do you give your kids for after school snacks.
I try to keep some semi-healthy choices on hand yogurt, applesauce that sort of thing.

My friend made great biscuits the other day for Bunco. She just used the canned biscuits ( I know all of your Southerners are cringing I'm sorry :) ) and then stuffed with cheese and pepperoni. She said she uses all sort of things and then stores them in the freezer for her kids when they get home from school. I thought that was a great idea so I am making some sausage and cheese ones now. You could use spaghetti sauce and meatballs or leftover taco meat. Lots of options there.

What do you feed your kids when they come home ravenous  from school?

Yes, they are raving loons  , they are so starving.

I keep a snack box with somewhat healthy choices in it, or they can choose a fruit in the fruit drawer.

In the snack box are Goldfish crackers, crackers with cheese, jello, etc.

I started making these:

Take a toothpick and string on sliced strawberry a mozzerella ball and a pineapple.

I make up a bunch of those and keep them in the fridge in a sealed container.

Grapes, chedder/sharp cheese and apples works well too.

DD also likes apple slices and no fat caramel dippers

DD LOVE's them.

Great suggestion!!!! I think my daughter would love that. Thnak you. Must pick up some pineapple.:thumbsup2

oh great ideas!

momma, those are good choices. :)

ok the first batch of the sausage biscuits came out. they are really big!

I used 2 biscuits for each of them. Flattened one out and put it on the bottom of a muffin tin, then put cheese and breakfast sausage on top of that, then covered with another flattened biscuit. DS will love them. They smell pretty good.

Now I have single bicuits stuffed with cheese in the oven, the girl will like those I think.

Thanks for the idea-they sound good! Did you grease or spray the muffin tin before baking? :)

always a cake or cupcakes on the first day of school

for regular days -

anything with peanut butter, since he can't have it in school
fruit
pretzels
sometimes popsicles

We have a snack drawer, and I buy bulk cookies/crackers/pretzels/etc. and make portioned snacks in baggies. I also have applesauce, string cheese, yogurt, peanut butter and fruit. Although not healthy, those bisquits sound great -too bad I JUST finished my bunco shopping! :thumbsup2

Most days my daughter will have Yogurt (she could live on that stuff) and my son will have a Fruit Roll Up. Sometimes I make them pizza rolls and other days they have Peanut Butter crackers. It really depends on their mood, I guess! LOL

I saw that idea on Supernanny. Each kid had their own snack box. I wanted to do that in my house, but kept forgetting about it. Thanks for the reminder. :)

Those sound really good for a quick breakfast, too! I might have to think about doing that. Do you individually wrap them and throw them in the freezer to be nuked later?

My dd often has popcorn.
I have cottage cheese if I'm good. (I have to eat every four hours or so, so I eat lightly when I get home from work at 4:45pm.)

We have a snack drawer in the kitchen too!! I love it because finally I don't have to say what they can and can't have over and over! They go to the drawer and get something or they can have a single size popcorn bag or a piece of fruit is always ok.

In the drawer, I buy bulk crackers, granola bars, muffins, etc. Anything individually wrapped and not 100% sugar.

I used to hear, "can I have a snack" non-stop. Now, they know they can get something after school!

I just let them all cool then threw them in a freezer baggie. Dh had 2 for snack and said they were really good.

DD likes apple slices with peanut butter, sliced fruit, a cheese stick, or pretzels. Every once in a while, we'll go out for a smoothie, or I'll make one at home for her.

I'm lucky- DD is a really healthy eater, overall.

My daughter grabs whatever she wants out of the junk drawer- cookies, brownies, potatoe sticks, muffins etc- she eats fruit for lunch so she comes home and has junk.

My DD doesn't usually snack after school. She doesn't get off the bus until 4:30 and we often eat around 5:00. But, I have two preschoolers who snack all day. I keep a section of the fridge for snacks-- yogurt, whole fruit, and pre-cut certain things like carrots, lettuce, etc. I also have a cabinet of snacks that contains dried fruit, nuts, seeds, pretzels. One of our favorites lately has been the chocolate rice cakes with PB or nutella on them. I'm guilty of snacking on these too. I also freeze some breakfast items like muffins and pumpkin pancakes that tend to wind up as snacks as well.
