After riding the Disneyland coasters...

I made forum posts before of my fear, and now...I actually went on them.

Now, to be honest, I was SCARED as **** when I was going to the line of Space Mountain. This was early in the morning, and as much as I didn't want to, I went on it...

AND IT WAS FUN.

This made me go on both the Matterhorn and Big Thunder Mountain.

The thing I like about these coasters is that Disney KNOWS what thrills are. Yes, they are pretty intense like a regular roller coaster, and yes, there are some drops. But the truth is, what really makes these coasters actually "ride-able" for me, is that there is BARELY any stomach G-force, and no big-*** drops (just small dips and sharp turns.) Yes, you can feel the intensity, but it's not like a Six Flags coaster. It's enough to satisfy you.

Now, I'm going on Tower Of Terror tomorrow, and I'm mixed about this. I'm kind of scared, but at the same time, I just hope the ride just has the same feeling of not having your stomach droped, but enough intensity for you to like it.

Anyone have any thoughts?

The first time I rode Tower of terror I was absolutely terrified. I was never one to really like thrill rides but I did like screaming on lots and big thunder and Matterhorn. Now the first time I rode Tower of terror I came off that ride absolutely terrified shaking and crying about 15 minutes.

Eventually I forced myself to go back on again because I want to conquer my fears.and I really enjoyed one said let my anticipation go way the ride itself is actually really good. The great part about the ride is that it's almost like on a pulley system so you're not really like a freefall like a Six Flags ride would be more it's being pulled up or down making a very smooth ride. I really think you should give it a chance I regret not going on it far more often as now it's one of my favorite rides

ToT is more scary because of the apparitions (at least it was the scariest for my kids, I think they genuinely believed they were real despite me explaining exactly how they did it). It is up and down drops like Jumping Jellyfish if that helps?

Good job on conquering your fears!

I hated ToT the first time I went on it... As well as time number 2 and 3. In fact, I refused to go on it at all with my hubby on our honeymoon!

Then I watched a video on how they actually make that feeling. Essentially, it is pulling you down faster than gravity, which is what gives you the weightless feeling (and, yes, some tummy-drop feeling). Once I was able to work through the fact that it wasn't "dropping" me, but pulling me down in a very controlled fashion, it made it easier/less scary for me.

Oh, and I ask to sit in the rear corner (either side). Then I have something behind my head and down one side of my body, a "fence" to hold on to on one side, and a handle to hold on to on the other side... plus a seatbelt that I make sure is really tight.

We prefer riding at night because the view (even for a few seconds) is really pretty with the parks and the city lit up. DH doesn't really like TOT, but he'll ride it for the queue and the view. I agree with ADLfan about floating -- fun!

I'm excited to hear your thoughts in TOT. I can easily ride all the coasters. Not a fan of going upside down, but the rest I like. I won't do ferris wheels though, and I avoided ToT. If you enjoy it, I may have to give it a try on my next trip :)

I'm such a wimp. I only go on the kiddie rides and leave the terrifying things for my kids and husband.:snail:

Congrats, especially hitting space mountain before the other 2 tamer ones. I would have worked up to it. Let us know what you think of ToT.

You need to ride California Screaming tomorrow. It may look scary to you but if you can ride space mountain you can ride screaming.

I completely agree with this. Screamin is so smooth of a ride and the drops are very "easy". It's a really fun coaster and this is from someone who rode her first coasters at Cedar Point at 22 and didn't do Space Mountain or Splash until her 20's.
It's completely worth it. I seriously wish my mom had made me try everything once.

I was at DL on Wednesday and CA on Thursday. California Screamin is very smooth, but I thought Matterhorn was somewhat more jerky and bumpy. Space and BTMRR were great. And we rode ToT 4 times!!!

Return trip this coming Tuesday for MHP.

My son rode first at 4. He loved the up and down. But he was somehow convinced, in his intricate kid mind, that we had died and turned into blue skeletons, on the ride. He wouldn't ride again until he was 9 or 10.

That's awesome!

You will love ToT. We were freaked out about it on our first trip and it took our 6 year old DS to drag us on......once we did we were hooked! It's a must do for us multiple times every trip.

I agree with the OP about giving Screamin' a try as well. If you can do Space then you can do Screamin'.

Have fun today!

Not sure about that... I can ride Space Mountain (and Big Thunder, and Matterhorn) with no issues, but won't (can't!) do California Screaming because of the loop. I am terrified on anything that has me going upside down or backwards like Expedition Everest at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida... I swear I couldn't catch my breath on the backwards part. Such a scary feeling! Thankfully, it didn't last long enough for me to go blue in the face, but I haven't ridden it again!

I think this really depends on what scares you. My issue is with drops. Speed, bumpiness, quick turns and the like don't bother me at all, but drops do, and for me Screamin' is not on the same level as Space at all. I'm not saying you shouldn't try it - I did and I came to enjoy it. I'm just giving you a heads up because I would not have been happy had I gone on Screamin' for the first time expecting it to be like Space. I watched a ride video first so I knew where to expect the drops and that helped a lot.

.

I was exactly like that the 1st time I mustered up the courage to ride Screamin. I literally closed my eyes just b4 the loop and in all honesty didn't even feel the upside down sensation, it was that fast and that smooth.
