We have ressies for 2 nights at Daytona Hilton. Please reassure me this place is not a dive. Trip Advisor gave good reports not as good as I think Oceanfront but there were no ressies available there. We are going to the Budshoot Out and ending our Disney vacation here and dont want it to be miserable. Any opinions good or bad out there? The manatee things sounds cool at the State Park may have to look into that.

kimba - sorry for worrying you - i started that daytona thread.

have a great trip.

Actually I am glad you did start that thread. The Manatee thing sounds cool and so does Ponce Inlet. We leave tonite and atleast I have alittle idea of how it is going to be. My 3 kids I dont think need an education on the boardwalk but we will see. They just may get one at the Bud shootout for all I know.

We were at Daytona 2 years ago and loved it! No problems at all--and we took the kids to the Boardwalk! They ahve some fun stuff just for kids there--even a balloon artist handing out balloons. My youngest ds loved going on the pier and seeing the big fish people caught!

The plan to redevelop the Boardwalk/Pier area is finally underway and I think some of the ground work has begun. Don't know how many businesses will be open now, attempts to close the final hold outs has won in court. Should be a positive renovation for the entire area, long overdue. Daytona will come out of this a better vacation spot for families wanting to stay in the hub.

Scroll down this page to see rendering of Boardwalk and Pier plan and links to other information. Also overhead shot of Ocean Walk, condos on left, mall on right and you can barely make out the old bandshell in front of them. That is where the boardwalk concrete ends.

We were there 2 years ago and we had the best time at Ponce Inlet.
Here is a link to the lighthouse.

My then 2 year old and I climbed all the way to the top and I carried him all the way down. Going down is the hardest part!
We also played in a fabulous park w/beach access near there. My husband loves driving on the beach.

We went to Daytona last year, and stayed at a great place called Perry's Ocean Edge Resort. It is right on the beach, has two great pools, and has been completely remodeled. It's a couple of miles down the beach (south) of the boardwalk, but it was a short drive to many restaurants. I would highly recommend Perry's.
