Hi All,

We closed on 200 pts at SSR from a re-sale right around Thanksgiving. I thought we would have heard from DVC by now. No membership cards, no packets of some sort. I did get an email with a PIN # & have been on the site a few times, when it works, lol. Am I wrong or just impatient. I was also shocked at the cost of my 2008 dues.

Thanks in advance,
Cindy

We got a packet with some general information about 30 days after we closed. However, none of us have gotten our 2008 planner yet. So, it doesn't surprise me that you haven't gotten anything yet either. After we closed, we got the DVC planner, the member perks booklet (which is a little paperback book informing you of discounts available to you as a DVC member) and a couple of other minor things. In all honesty, if they mailed you the other things without the planner, you would have been left with a vague sense of nothing! Well....maybe a vague sense would have been better than NO SENSE at all, huh??? :lmao: Anyway, Dis said on dvcmember.com that the book are supposed to reach us by 12/31. I will bet you get your information then. We did get member cards, but if I recall, those came later. If you don't receive them soon, I'd call MS and just ask if they can get you a new member packet out and ask when you can expect your member ID cards.

As for MFs, I guess I kind of expected the increase (we own at SSR). If you look at the history of your resort via Disboard's threads, it seems as if they go up almost every year. Sometimes they'll stay flat or even decrease, but in general, they seem to go up. Ours went up about .10 per point in 2008. We ended up buying resale, but talked to a guide at Dis when we were down there in 2006. After talking with him and having a BIL/SIL who are DVC members, we knew exactly what to expect of the system and the fees. A necessary evil, I guess! :goodvibes

Welcome home!

As I recall it can take a couple of months for the membership cards to arrive. If you have a trip coming up soon you can stop by the DVC sales center at SSR and pick up temporary cards to use during your trip. Otherwise since you are already in DVC's system you can call MS to make reservations, bank points, etc. and you can check DVC point charts here on the DIS or on the members' website to do your vacation planning. Better yet, you can download Caskbill's free DVC software to help you plan your vacations.

As far as the 2008 dues are concerned, the dues on 200 SSR points went up a total of $18 between 2007 and 2008 from $824 to $842 which is an increase of only 2.2%. That is the lowest annual increase at SSR since the first year the resort was open. You might want to look at DISboard member robinb's DVC dues history which shows the annual increases (actual amounts and percentages) for each resort. Overall, the average annual increase across all the resorts is in the 3.5%-4% range but SSR's average increase is still below 3% at this point.
