Excellent choice! :thumbsup2
You will have all of those wonderful restaurants just a monorail ride away at the Grand Floridian and the Contemporary!
Enjoy! :sunny:

You've made a wonderful choice. The Polynesian is our favourite resort without a doubt. I'm sure you will have a magical trip. :sunny:

dan

Lovely ~ Although I have never stayed there the Polynesian is a beautiful resort. It has some fab places to eat as well.

The Polynesian is my absolute favourite resort to visit at WDW. I have never been lucky enough to stay there but I have visited many times and it is wonderful :sunny:

Rather than request a specific room, I would go for an area as you have a better chance of having your request accommodated :)

I'm no expert in room locations at the Poly, but as Frances says above (and she is an expert on Poly rooms ;) ) if you can give an idea of what room type you have booked it will be easier to help :)

we have just booked a standard room through virgin, but should be able to request a specific room though, even if its gonna cost me?

You can certainly send in a request for a specific room, but it's very unlikely they will be able grant you that exact room. It's better to request a specific longhouse or view instead, then they will have a range of rooms to choose from for you.

You may be able to upgrade to a different room when you arrive, but obviously this depends on the availability. I believe you will be charged the "rack rate" to upgrade if they have a room available. If you do want to upgrade, I would personally call Virgin Holidays and ask them for a quote.

As for the best standard rooms, if you want the largest rooms then these are in the newer longhouses such as Tahiti. These have the larger double-sinked bathrooms and the extra square-footage (but they tend to be the further longhouses nearer the TTC end of the resort - but, this is still a nice area, with a great, very quiet and private, beach). However, I believe that it is possible to get a standard garden-view room with a view over the marina and out towards the Bay Lake. Fiji has some wonderful rooms overlooking the marina. By 21st September all of the longhouses should be fully completed with the new style rooms. If you want to make sure you get a "new" room I would request a longhouse which is already fully complete, just to be sure. These are Aotearoa, Fiji, Samoa, Niue and Rarotonga.

Take a look at Tikiman's website. It's truly the Polynesian Resort bible!

does your package include the free dining plan? (i think that September is part of the free dining plan)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Poly - it really is a beautiful hotel.

Set aside several hours and read through Tikiman's site - it's so imformative :thumbsup2

We stayed in the Tokelau longhouse and had beautiful views of the gardens. We were also near the 'quieter' swimming pool for that first thing in the morning dip. I must admit I wasn't too bothered where we stayed because I knew they would all be good - I just did my normal faxing to the resort asking for a top floor, quiet room away from elevator, stairwell and icemaking machine! We were very pleased with the room we were in.

We loved O'hana's; the meal was great fun and plenty of it. Our DD thoroughly enjoyed all the entertainment there, too.

The real plus is the monorail taking you to MK or Epcot. The reason we chose the Poly on that particular trip was we only planned to visit these two parks, especially so for MK since we were ding MNSSHP. It was great to get the monorail "straight" into the parks :cloud9:

Enjoy your stay :sunny:
