Not sure I want to keep my cake order after seeing so many major complete cake mess ups. I sent a picture of what I wanted . I said I would pay $100.00 to get what I wanted but now it seems that if I am lucky it will turn out. I hate to depend on luck for this special occasion. I will Have to think on this for a few days to decide. Anyone else nervous ? I really scrimped and saved to be able to do this.

I wouldn't leave it to luck. Follow-up with them. Ask if they got the picture. Let them know this is EXACTLY what you want and if they anticipate any problems you want to know now. Get the name of the person you speak with, the time and the date. Double check the time and where it will be delivered to. Also keep a trail of when you placed the order and all the other information you gave them. Better to not leave anything to chance. :)

Hope this helps some.

good idea koolaidsmom. I will print out all me email communication with Pat Anderson and Picture I sent her of the agreed upon cake.

Its funny, I was thinking of getting a cake for our 13th anniversary next month at either Jiko or Citrico's but after researching it and finding all the errors I decided we will save the $$ and order dessert off the menu and some fancy cocktails :thumbsup2

I agree with koolaidmoms, keep on them and confirm and confirm again.

After that you have to be willing to accept the possiblity that it will not be exactly what you ordered.

Most of the cakes in the cake gallery are close to what was ordered, with only a few exceptions (rafiki cake, missing Cinderella Castle topper, and that poor poster with the Haunted Mansion Cake). A majority of the cakes are beautiful even though they may not be exactly right, wrong filling, or wrong icing, missing colors, name screen printed instead of hand piped etc. and the people receiving the cakes generally have no clue that it wasn't exactly right.

Lower your expectations and be prepared for an expensive disaster cake and 9 times out of 10 you will be pleased with what is delivered! I'm not saying that Disney should not do a better job, but it is what it is. We are captives and have to work within the Disney system.

FWIW we had a cake delivered to 1900 PF for DD's b-day in September. I asked for a Malificent themed cake and the person taking the order did not know who she was (she thought I was talking about Ursula) so I was fully prepared for the worst. I was ready to shell out a ridiculous amount of money for a hideous cake. Guess what! The cake was perfect! We couldn't have been more pleased! So hope for the best and prepare for the worst!

I'm nervous as well. We saved to get this cake, we do not have tons of money but thought the memory would be special for my dd's 9th bday(NEXT TUESDAY!!!). I did not request a specific cake, just Halloween/Birthday themed, and I was told Brian was making it at CR and it would be at CM for my dd's bday dinner...so I feel reassured a little, but what if Brian doesn't make it and it ends up being some screenprint cake that I could have gotten at walmart?!!? It seems like a lot of fuss over a cake, but it was something my husband wanted to do for our dd.

some of the cakes I have seen are beautiful and I have never seen one that Brian made that is ugly, so I'm just going to have to take the chance and hope we get some pixie dust on this one!

I would make a copy of the pic you sent them and bring it along. If the cake doesn't look like the pic you should refuse it. You should never have to pay for Disney's mistakes.

Remember if it really is THAT bad :scared1: speak to the manager and complain. If you don't feel satisfied after speaking to the manager - you would not pay more than $25 for the cake when they tell you it is going to be $100 for a poorly decorated round cake with crusty icing roses on it- then eat your way up the food chain. Ask the manager for their boss and if you don't feel satisfied there ask for their boss. Keep going until you feel someone is finally listening to you and your concerns and taking them seriously. Keep a log of who you talked to when.

Go to whomever you need to with pictures (always good to have) and the information you sent and were given in ordering the cake. Usually the higher ups on the chain have some leeway to refund your money, order a new cake for the next night, comp. your meal or something. It doesn't take away the fact that it should have been done right in the first place but unless the "higher ups" know that people are upset and hesitant about ordering cakes it will not change.

JMHO. :)

This happened to me back in 2006 for my DD's 4th birthday. We ate at 1900 PF and I had ordered the small round Cinderella Slipper topped cake. It was supposed to cost $45 and then the slipper topper was an additional $35.

Our server never brought the cake out after we were done and I had to tell her I pre-ordered it and gave her a confirmation number. 20 minutes later they brought a cake out- the same type I ordered- but it was frozen the whole way through and tops of the icing were cracking off. They hand piped my daughters name on the plate, but spelled it wrong and then they totally forgot the slipper part. I was absolutely disgusted but my daughter still loved it.

After dinner I went up and spoke to the manager and told him what happened. I even told him the person I spoke to on the phone and what day/time, etc. He apologized as much as he could and didn't charge me for the cake. The next afternoon when we came back to our resort, we had a big basket of chocolates waiting for us and a special gift for my DD- a big plush Minnie Mouse- from the manager at 1900 PF with another letter apologizing.

I want to order another cake this year for her birthday again, but I am also afraid of another mistake. She will be 7 this year, so a little more discerning, but I am sure she will love it no matter what it is.

Good luck with your decision!

I understand how you feel - I want to get DH a really impressive cake for his birthday during our next trip but I'd hate to pay upwards of $100 and not get what we ordered. And I'd also hate to have to talk to a manager during his birthday dinner or keep following up afterwards in the event of a mix-up. I have a while to decide so I'm going to keep my eye on the cake thread to try to gauge how things are going.

Oh I'm so glad I am not the only one having second thoughts. I thought I would order one of the fancy cakes, but now that the Wishes Dessert party is extended I am wondering if we should just go for the buffet instead of taking a chance on a cake.

I really wanted to do something special for the kids 1st visit. I sent a email to a lady who had a beautiful cake and asked if she could tell me how she ordered her cake.

We returned from a WDW trip in August, where we celebrated my DD6's birthday. I opted to skip the cake and was pleasantly surprised by the number of special desserts that she received. Cupcakes or ice cream at every table service and a beautifully presented cream puff desert at Kona. She told me that she didn't want a cake when she could get all these special desserts!

Not trying to talk you out of a cake, sometimes it's nice to have one. I'm just saying that you might be surprised by the number of freebie desserts that are offered.

Sorry to go OT, but do you have the email address you sent this to?? The one on the cake thread keeps coming back undeliverable.

Oh and I'm still ordering a cake...I just think it's bad luck when mistakes happen;)
