After a vasectomy.....

Maybe you should also get his opinion. He may want YOU to get "fixed".

Yes, that may be true. I've thought about that myself, but I know my husband well enough to know that he will want to get the surgery. :)

My dh never hesitated when it came time to make that decision. He said that since I had spent years taking BC pills, then pregnancy followed by c-sections and goodness know how many doctors poking and prodding around that this was his responsibility.

The odds are low, but my OB's nurse in PHX - she had a tubal, he had a vasectomy and like 7 years later THEY had TWINS!!!!

DH just had one - he has the all clear

the doctor told him most pregnancies after are the men who didn't go back for the recheck

10 minutes, $400 dollars after insurance and 2 days watching tv acting hurt.
That's all it took for my ex.

MMMMMM, vasectomy. I had hernia surgery just before that caused some pretty bad scarring inside by the boys, and it caused me no end of pain for the vasectomy.

I learned an interesting lesson that day - no matter how much pain killer they inject you with, the boys are *always* sensitive. The doc apologized that he had to cause me so much pain - because of the scarring, I had a 3 inch long incision and the boys were 'delivered' temporarily. UGH. OUCH. PAIN.

The nurse told me later it was the hardest vasectomy he had even done and if he has patients in the future that might have scarring he will put them out first. I got to be the test case. :(

Mine had his last week. He was moving cautiously for the first couple of days and went back to work this week.

DH had one and it was so easy on him. He spent maybe 1/2 a day on the couch. That was about 13 years ago.

I would like to add though that if you ever decide on reversal it isn't easy and it isn't cheap! We decided that we wanted another child a few years ago and talked to our Dr. about reversal. He said that the longer the vasectomy has been done the more unlikely a reversal is to work. It's also very very costly to have one done. We decided on adoption instead but just wanted to throw that out there.

HOLY COW!!!!! There's been quite a bit of people responding saying how accidents have happened after the surgery, so I'm starting to think the odds aren't as low as everyone thinks.

Just a heads up for those couples contemplating a vasectomy or tubal- there is a new, non-surgical procedure called Essure for women. I had it done in June. I get a test next month to make sure it worked. Basically a 45 minute procedure where you are in 'twilight' sleep- I was awake, but didn't give a flip about what was going on down there, and the DR. inserts tiny springs in each fallopian tube. Your body makes scar tissue around the springs, and within 3 months enough scar tissue blocks the tubes. It was VERY easy, and just light cramping afterwards. I was walking around fine within a couple hours. More tired just from the drugs than any pain.

I know they have a website- check it out! :thumbsup2

My husband had his surgery in January 2004, one month before we got married. I had gotten him the Indiana Jones collection for Christmas so he was looking forward to laying on the couch and watching the collection that weekend (had the surgery on a Friday morning).

The catch? They gave him Hydrocodone for pain. My poor husband had no idea what this drug is. He took one when he got home from the proceedure, popped in the movie, stretched out on the couch, and didn't wake up until the next day! LOLOLOL!! Bless his heart, the drug completely knocked him out!!! He called the doctor back and told her to give him something less potent (no pun intended), that he hated the stuff! So she gave him a prescription dosage of Ibuprofen and he was fine after that.

He was just mad he didn't get to watch his movies. He was too dang sleepy! :)
