After a job interview, do they call either way?

I've gone on 2 job interviews in the last couple of weeks. Haven't heard from either one....yet. At the conclusion of each of the interviews, the final words were "you'll hear from us" and "you'll be hearing from either myself or Mr. Jones". So does this mean that they call each person that they interviewed and tell them if they got the job or not? I always thought that if you didn't hear back at all it means you weren't hired.

Were they lying when they said they'd call? :confused3 Kind of like the end of a date where you tell the person "I'll give you a call" even if you don't want to see them again? :lmao:

Just wondering if I should still hold out hope for either job... :scratchin

P.S. They did say they would be making their decisions "within a couple of weeks" and "within a week or so". Well, time's almost up! :hourglass

Just curious if you sent a thank you follow up letter after the interview. If you have already done that you might want to directly contact the person who interviewed and just say, I know you said you were making a decision soon, just wanted to let you know I am very much interested in the position and my such and such skills would be a perfect match for your companys such and such needs etc. I have read that l thank you and l follow up phone call is the acceptable norm these days and good luck Debbie, hope it works out for you.

Sometimes you hear and sometimes you don't. I'd follow up if I were you.

If you don't hear back immediately, it is probably not good.

Thanks for the advice! I will call Monday. I guess it can't hurt :)

luvmarypoppins: I'm Terry, not Debbie. :wave2:

Taylor: That's exactly what I am thinking too, but I'm trying to be optimistic. LOL :teeth:

I work in HR and we always let the person know within a couple of days. We usually let them know during the interview if it looks good or not, and then send them a letter within a day or two with the final decision. But we're a small operation (less than 400 people) so we're not swamped with interviews. I think it depends on how big the company is. It never hurts to follow up with a note. We always save those.

Good luck!

For the interview I went on almost 2 weeks ago (it'll be 2 weeks on Tuesday), she told me she was *very* interested in hiring me and that I was the best candidate for the job she'd seen so far. She's the one who said she'd be interviewing and not making a decision for a couple of weeks. She also knew that I had to go to NJ this past week to take my DS there for the summer. I told her that I could make alternate arrangements, if need be, and that's when she said she wouldn't be making a decision for a couple of weeks anyway. Is it too late to call back now, almost 2 weeks later? I almost sent her a Thank You note, but my DH said it wasn't necessary! Next time, I'll send the note anyway. lol

I went on the second interview just this past Wednesday. They said they were still interviewing and not making a decision for at least a week. So there's still time with this one too, I guess. Maybe I'll send a note to that person, on Monday.

I just was really surprised that BOTH said they'd call. I didn't know what that meant because I always assumed they never call, unless they're going to hire you. lol

It's never too late to call and let them know you're still interested. They're most likely still interviewing, and having your name come up again keeps you in the forefront of their minds. We have people that call months after we tell them no. :)

Your date analogy was correct. What was your gut instinct ? That is what I always go by...except the time I was hired after the boss changed the interview time and day about six times...that one I pretty much knew I had the job BEFORE I went in...I could tell by his tone on the phone he'd have been embarrassed not to hire me...or the time I ran the interview myself and called the woman a couple days later and said "So, I have the job, right ?"

Well my gut instinct was that the woman from the first interview really liked me, especially because she kept saying so. LOL

Another thing I realized last night; In my entire life, I've never NOT gotten hired for a job I've interviewed for. LOL So this could be a first for me. :rolleyes1 LOL

Not that I've had many jobs (as a teen I worked as a summer camp counselor for special ed kids, then I worked in a bakery and then a movie theater. As an adult I worked for a bank {I was promoted to head teller within a year}, and then worked for an insurance agency, as well as more recently working 1 day a week for our accountant, and doing tech/customer support and billing for the ISP my husband and his business partner owned), and I have been a SAHM for the last 18+ years... but hey, these companies are stupid if they don't hire me!! :smooth: hehehehe ;)
