Hi all....just wanted to say we visited the Lion Safari for the first time this weekend (Sat). It was fun. The biggest kick I got was driving thru the game reserves (we took the tour bus so our car wouldn't be peed on or picked at)...the monkeys were HILARIOUS!!! they were all over the vehicles. The other animals came right up to the vehicles too. There were several shows...my DD got to participate in the elephant show. There is a train and boat ride. There is an excellent water park. Its divided into big kids side/ little kids side. There is a huge water playground for the big kids with one of those dumping buckets (similar to wonderland). And there are fountains, wading areas and little water slides for the little kids. it was a great way to break up the day. At he end we got a ovine photo...we all dressed up like we were on safari, and had our pic taken in a safari jeep. I know this isn't about Disney, but for us it was a practice run....fine tuning our backpacks/ fanny packs/ strollers etc.

We went to African Lion Safari back at the end of June, and I have to say that I enjoyed the bus tour through the game preserves much better than the Kilimanjaro Safaris at AK. The animals at ALS are, quite literally, right there, as opposed to AK where you sometimes feel like you need a 1000mm telephoto lens in order to see anything. The rest of the park doesn't measure up to Disney standards with respect to theming (nor does it try to) but for our family of 4 we spent well under $100 for the day - including admission and food (we took a picnic lunch in a cooler) - which we all felt was a very good value for our money. And it was only a 1.5 hour trip by car, as opposed to 3 hours by air. :)

From the TV ads we see, I always thought ALS would be this tacky little hole-in-the-wall, but I was very surprised at the quality of the attractions.

Hi From Canada - Our family enjoys African Lion Safari, too, and we usually visit once a year. In the past there have been discount coupons in the Entertainment book (haven't checked this year's yet) and CAA used to offer a fairly good (around 20%) discount, but I think it stopped last year. Two years ago we headed there in our brand new less-than-a-week old minivan and decided to take the safari bus, rather than driving through on our own. In fact, we found it much more enjoyable than using our own vehicle. It's a nice day - the safari ride, lunch, a few shows, some time in the water park, and then home again - all without breaking the bank.
