Afraid We Won't Like 50's Prime Time Cafe

We thought it was really fun and my DD declared it her favorite restaurant (today!)

When we checked in, we told them we'd wait for a TV table, since we were there on my B-day. We asked if we could have a buzzer and wait outside, since the waiting area is a little small and DS get's freaked out in enclosed spaces. They said "this is the 50's, there's no such thing as buzzers, we just yell." They take the theme all the way!!

I think the wait staff picks up on your mood right away and sees how you respond. I had the fried chicken and our waiter asked if I wanted the greens or wanted to substitute, to make sure I would eat them!!!

He gave my son a sticker, even though he didn't clean his plate. He was wonderful and we had a really great time!

Twice now I have been impressed with the servers ability to determine who wants to play and who is too shy

We went last year and my Wife got the Airplane because she didn't eat her greens :rotfl:. Excellent food, IMHO, and loved the atmosphere. We want to go back next year, with or without our friends who will be traveling with us.

This is why my husband loves me, I am a southern girl who was raised on greens so I just take his so he doesn't have to worry about any turbulance at dinner.

Glad to hear some of the parents are still really role playing though

I really liked dining at 50s primetime cafe. Me, DH, DD, & DS ate here in April of this year. We loved the theming and the food (YUM! Definitely tastier than Sci-Fi). Our waitress was into her role and we liked to play along but I did find that they wouldn't play that role if you weren't into it. But it isn't so bad, even if they say 'get your elbows off the table' they aren't going to harass you about it. Try it out and prepare your family (IF you think you should) and enjoy the food. Remember, the wait staff doesn't EAT with you, so the majority of your time is spent with your dining party.

We've been twice and both times were up for some fun, but the CMs we had pretty much just waited on us, making just a comment or two but not really getting into it. DH and I enjoy this place because so many of the 'artifacts' are exactly what our parents and/or grandparents had in their homes.

Try it! The food is great, and honestly it was our best dining experience when we were there back in February. Our server, Cousin Joey, was SO friendly and had a whole family at the next table singing Happy Birthday and signing a birthday card for me. Other than giving my husband a sticker for finishing his veggies, there wasn't much role play at all. They really can read who is prepared for the teasing and who is not.

It's also the only time I've left a Disney restaurant and remembered the server's name!

We ate here for the first time last spring break and I was disappointed. Our waiter was not into the role playing at all, even though we had kids at the table (and adults) who love this kind of thing. And the food, IMO, was worse than SciFi. I would NEVER go there again for the food, and would "think about" one more try for the experience as so many people have posted how much fun they had. But it's not on the top of my "to do" list.

My son and I went to 50's Prime Time on our last visit and it was hysterical. I'm ALWAYS after him about minding his manners....until the day we walked in here. I didn't say a word to him about what to expect! He was asked to set the table...and just brushed it off as a joke...till she came back! Our waitress had him setting that table so fast!!! I laughed till I cried. :rotfl2:
After he finished that she made him put his "nappy in his lappy"! The look on his face was priceless. He didn't figure out what was going on until another family came in and sat down and he saw how the waitress interacted with them. Once he figured out that our waitress was supposed to act that way he loosened up and they bantered back and forth the entire meal.
Yes, it was probably mean of me to set him up...but oh so worth it. At least I know that all the manners and talks we've had have sunk in. LOL!

The food was really good and there was a lot of it! We will probably return there in December, it was a lot of fun!

We went last year and my Wife got the Airplane because she didn't eat her greens :rotfl:. Excellent food, IMHO, and loved the atmosphere. We want to go back next year, with or without our friends who will be traveling with us.

My friend got the "chugga, chugga" train when he decided to be funny and hide his greens under his chicken bones. And finger wagging from both the server and the other patrons in our section.

It varies. We got no interaction and the food was only so-so. However the food is definitely better than that at the Sci Fi!

This is one of our favorites! Go with a good attitiude! But I do agree with the pps that they are very adept at knowing who to play with and who to leave alone. The food is good and the atmosphere is great. On our first trip the waitress gave my DH heck, making him take off his cap and take his elbows off the table. She refilled his glass a ton and then assured him that it was okay because I had packed the plastic sheets. We laughed til we cried. It is great! Go and have a blast. Really whoop it up! My thinking is, who cares if I get silly and laugh and play along? That is why I am in Disney! I am never gonna see any of these people again anyway!

I was justing reading over the menu at AllEars.net, looks good and they serve alcohol so that's a plus (unless Mom has a problem with my drinking heheh).

We love 50's Prime Time. We have a lot of fun with the wait staff. We think the food is really good, except for the green beans. We always ask for corn. The S'Mores are wonderful.

I sure hope they "play" with my family. My DH and I are the only ones who know what could happen there. We're going for the experience and to see how DDs 14, 11 and 9 react. I will be disappointed if we get a dud waiter.

I'm hoping I can figure out a way to signal our waiter to really pick on DD 14, b/c she's just at the perfect age to wonder what the heck, but is also able to really laugh at herself.

We LOVE 50's PTC! I thought the food was FAR better than Sci Fi. Our waiter played with us - didn't feed us our food but commented about the veggies and had us set the table, and handed out clean plate stickers to my dh and dad who DID clean their plates. The waitress behind us was hysterical though. One lady was on her cell phone talking to a friend and she took the phone and told the friend she would have to call her back as it was dinnertime and mom did not allow calls during dinner. Then a couple at a large table had just gotten married, and she asked the whole restaurant if they had gotten invited. She had a big pout that she was not invited and made them stand up, re-recite their vows, and pledge "to never take each other to Universal" :rotfl: it was the best meal of our trip!

We thought it was a lot of fun. We were quite into it, so our waitress(Cousin Jennifer) really played it up at our table. There were other tables that she didn't interact as much with. It really seemed like it was based on the guests attitude when she was introducing herself and getting drink orders. It was by far our favorite restaurant and we thought the food was good.

Cousin Jennifer did take someone at a different tables phone away, too.
