Hi,

Are there any other women who get scared staying alone at night? I know I must be a big scaredy cat, but every time my DH goes out of town for work, I freak smooth out having to stay by myself. I'm fine all day, but as soon as it gets dark and I have to go to sleep, I get scared.

I live in a nice, safe neighborhood. I have a big dog that sleeps on my bed with me, and I have a gun by the bed. But I STILL can't help being scared. I hate it. Anyone else out there understand?

just relax and rent a slasher movie

Not scared like you are.... I'm scared of ghosts. :lmao:

It's pathetic - I know this - but if I watch any sort of ghost show, before bed, I sleep with the light on.

My husband rarely has to work late at night, but when he does it is so hard for me the relax. I always think I hear noises. Luckily, we have an alarm system, but still it gets scary. There's something about my husband sleeping next to me that makes me feel safe.

One time I woke up because I heard music. i walked out into the hall and was trying to figure out where it was coming from when it just stopped. I never did figure it out. It was late at night and my husband was not home. It was creepy.

Yep, I've been married 31 years, and I still worry when I'm alone at night.

I see you're in north Texas. My DD just moved to Abilene xmas week.

She likes it there. They're near the AFB.

herc.

I would always feel like you do, but I never had a gun or dog, but then I had the 3 ds and it was worse, because not only did I worry about me, I worried about them.

Now they are grown and are 21,19 and 17 and still all live at home, and now dh is goiing away to california for a trip on Friday, I know my ds can take care of anyone who comes here univited!!

SEE??? That would have made all the light on the house come on, that night. :lmao:

Im very cranky, like psycho cranky, if you wake me up.... perhaps thats why Im not scared. If someone broke in, and woke me up, it's *on*. ;) :joker:

Cathryn, I read your post right after I posted mine. :rotfl2: Yeah, I didn't sleep so well that night. Do do do do <<<<<twilight zone music

No, I can't say that I do. My husband travels a LOT for work. I don't have a dog or a gun, but I do have a routine I follow before I go to bed that involves checking the doors and windows, etc. I just don't let the "what ifs" worry me.

Petrified! My dh travels for work, too. I hate it. My fear stems back to childhood. I'll spare you the details as I'm certain they won't be helpful. Just wanted you to know that I totally get the fear.

I always make the beagle get into bed with me when DH isn't there,
I have no idea why. What kind of psycho housebreaker intent on harm and mayhem would be scared of a beagle?

Still, he snores a little like DH, it is hard to sleep without some snoring.

I am...I hate it when DH travels for work. I don't have a big dog or a gun either- I don't think I ever will...but man, when he's gone I have to take sleeping pills to actually sleep...Dr. perscribed of course. I hate it. He travels a few times a year- sometimes just an over-night trip, then once a year he's gone for like two and a half to three weeks over sea's and that's horrible.

Last trip I actually got to the point of inviting my mom to come and stay for a week...it was fun, but not like having hubby home...I'm a super whimp.

When DH started traveling for his last job, I adopted large dog number three. I don't know why number three made such a difference, but now I could put out banner outside saying "Hey scary person, DH is out of town!"
I know it's twisted, but it makes me happy how scared everyone that comes to my door is.

Not when I'm at home. There I have 2 large dogs and an alarm system. Nights like tonight however, when I'm alone in a strange hotel room that has a door that opens directly outside... :faint: I usually stay up too late watching tv so I'm utterly exhausted when I finally fall asleep. At least this time I brought my laptop so I can play online.

That's when a chair in front of the door is a little comforting.

I'm glad to hear there are some others out there like me. Does everyone just stay up late, or try and make yourself fall asleep?

I watch TV until I am so tired that I have no problem falling asleep. If I don't get tired, I start looking for things to record on my DVR. For some reason it makes me sleepy when I click, click, click. :upsidedow

That never occurred to me. Great idea, thanks! I did lock every lock on the door though. At least this time I'm not on the bottom floor; that was a nerve-wracking night!

I don't deal well at all. My DH was doing overnights for 8 months, 5pm to 5am, and I swear I did not sleep until he came home. I paced from the front door to the back all night. Thankfully he has changed shift.

Can you get an alarm system? It might make you more at ease.
