Today in class we saw the most graphic video of the aftermath of a Rawandan genocide that happened in 1994. I cannot get the images out of my head and haven't been able to all day. I am scared to go to sleep tonight of having nightmares...

So...have any of you seen something that has affected you so profoundly that you are afraid to go to sleep or simply do not want to sleep or etc?

And...do you have a solution?

I know this sounds really funny, but after watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory for the first time when I was about four, I didn't realize that the movie was based on a fictitious book. I spent about 10 years of my life fearing that I'd turn into a blueberry. (Don't laugh, please?) I know that turning into a blueberry isn't something graphic, but it still scared me.

And yes, sometimes I thought about it too hard. Especially at night.

Here's what I did:

I'd clear out my mind entirely, and then fill it up with nice thoughts, or images of pretty places.

I hope I helped, and I'm sorry that you can't fall asleep.

Well we learned about the Rowandan Genocide last year and we watched this amazing movie called "Showers in April" or something like that and it was kind of graphic but not like everyone was shooting everyone. but some people did die.

and when we learned about the holocaust we read this super graphic book and i had tons of nightmares that me and my friends were in the holocaust. i told my teacher and she said that was totally normal. so just don't worry about it.

Never happened to me i'm just not scared. But my friend went and saw the grudge with me when we were in 6th grade and afterwards he had to sleep with his mommy and have a night light for 2 weeks. As for me I just went to sleep lol.

I just read up about it.. How sad.. :sad2:

Anyways, I would just do the "Sound of Music" approach to things, i.e. think of all your favorite things. It will help you get to sleep easier. I personally adapt it to singing a song. It always works for me. :)

My brother is scared of the dark. While at uni he heard a burgelor come in and was terrified. He is still scared now, but he can get to asleep if he just thinks that there is no-one there and he is safe inside his mind. He also has a lock on his door, but that's more of a privicy thing than a security thing.

I hope you can get back to sleep soon. :goodvibes

Try thinking of happy thoughts before you go to sleep.
Because most of the time the stuff you think about before you sleep is what you dream about.
(Well, that's just mee..)

I hate nightmares after watching Hotel Rwanda. It scared the living daylights out of me. If you are at all religious you can pray/meditate which helps or think happy thoughts. Those 2 things seem to help me ALOT!!!

I have been afraid of the KKK since I watched the Rosa Parks Story. Even if I am not african american, it still scares me. I'm afraid for myself and people who may have to witness them. They are honest to God very scary.

I'm afraid of the Outkast video where everything has a face. It's scary. I'm also afraid of Harry Potter. I had a nightmare I was at Hogwarts with my friends and they were teaching us how to dip a nacho and I failed and was gonna get punished, they i tried again and failed. They I woke up afraid. Lol.

Last year we watched a super graphic movie about the Holocaust. Just think about your happy place or whatever makes you happy, that helps a lot. Last year we watched 'All Quiet on the Western Front', which really freaked me out. Then today we watched this thing about shell shock, so I'll probably have to think of a 'few of my favorite things' tonight.

So did I. Want to hear something worse? We were eating food while watching it! I haven't had the Nightmare in a long time, but I don't know why but I hate hangings. It just scares me to death hearing the last breath that they'll take. :sad2: When they were in the gas chamber we didn't get to see that part. Hey, if you take away the screen, take away the sound too! :sad2: My teachers said we're going to learn more about it in 8th grade! Not good. :(

Eh. I remember watching the Escape from Sobibor. Gosh. That was historical fiction, and still scared me. That little boy went to run an errand, and found out about the gas chambers. Ah.

EWWW i HATe scary movies. I get so scared and usually can't sleep, so my way of sleeping is dont watch it at night first of all and try to aviod thinking about it. I usually put in a happy/favorite movie or tv show and watch that till i fall asleep or think of tomorrow and things that make me happy. Aviod thinking about it at all costs, which hopefully the tv or movie will help, and if u can sleep to the sound of the tv this could work!
I hope you can sleep better tonight!!!!

whenever i watch a scary movie, i cant fall asleep at night. im too scared to.

solution: i do absoulutley nothing cause eventually i fall asleep anyways lol.

lol i get scared at everything. i even got scared of the ring. i slept in my moms bed for 7 days. lol and it scared that crap out of me when a tv went fuzzy like in the movie. i thought samara was gonna pop out

hope i helped which i probably didnt...

We watched a move about that last year in our Gov't class at the end of the year. It was called "Hotel Rawanda" I think....and it was so gross and so sad! Me and some of the other girls were terribly upset that our teacher made us watch it. So I definitely no what you are talking about!
