My fear of heights has gotten worse as I've gotten older. I can't ride rides that have huge drops that are outside. I thought I wouldn't do well on TOT but, I did fine since it is indoors and they only briefly open the doors to see the outside and you are up high for about 2 seconds...not long enough to get scared of the height. I do see how it can bother many people though.
Now about Soarin'...I went on it in 2002 in DL and loved it

but went on it again this May in DL and almost had a fit because we were in the front row and I could see how far above the floor we were. My DH was great and held my hand and I just thought about how I would enjoy the ride. Once the movie started I was fine. It was just the going up that bothered me. Maybe sitting in a row further back would be better.
Space Mtn. doesn't bother me since it is in the dark. However, coasters that have HIGH drops make me close my eyes, which my DH says defeats the purpose of the ride. I just feel so out of control when dropping.
Splash Mtn. is one of my favorite rides and always has been. I have to say that the drop is about 5-8 seconds long and I keep my eyes open for the picture and then shut them till we hit the bottom.
I do NOT even try rides like Dumbo, Aladdin's Carpets, Astro Orbiter because I tried once and almost had a panic attack. Also keep in mind that the mouse coaster in AK (in Dinoland, can't think of the name right now) might be a problem. I had major issues and almost cried the whole ride on Mullholland Madness in DCA, which is a similar coaster. It was too high and I kept feeling like I was going to fall off!
Just choose rides that he thinks he can do and maybe try some that he is unsure of...they could be really fun.
My DH gets motion sick so we don't do the teacups, Star Tours, Mission Space or other things like that. In fact, I felt sick after Star Tours the last time I rode.
Have fun planning and have a great trip!!!
