DH is afraid of heights and will get sick when he does ride them. I have made a list of rides that I think he might be able to ride. There are a couple that I either dont remember or have never been in and i thought may be you guys could help me. The one I'm not sure are...
MK
-Space MT
-Tomorrow Land transit
-Peter Pan's Flight
-Splash MT
MGM
-Star tours

Do you guys think he could ride them or not???

The others I remember enough about. Some times he gets motions sickness too :confused3 I guess i'm going to have to ride some solo

The older I've gotten, I have started developing a thing about heights too. Most rides don't bother me, but for some reason, Astro Orbiter in tomorrowland at Mk sacred me to death in 2004. As soon as I stepped out of the elevator, I started sweating. It was the closest thing to a panic attack I've ever had. I grabbed my 3 year old and got right back on the elevator. There was another family in the elevator with us and I was embarassed, but oh well. DH and dd who was 5 at the time rode it and loved it. DS- 3 at the time- and I went straight back to the ground and safety. DH said I definitely wouldn't have liked it b/c of the height and speed of the ride- he said it was certainly faster than Dumbo! And I LOVE roller coasters- something about that thing just sent me into a panic. Anyway, you have been warned! :goodvibes

Splash Mountain is pretty high during the drop you are over 50 feet above the park and looking down on it.

My ex-DH is deathly afraid of heights. Won't go on a Ferris Wheel at carnivals or other theme parks. Yet he's never had a bit of trouble at Disney, not even on the ToT or Splash Mountain or Test Track.

Soarin, Rockin Roller Coaster, Expedition Everest?

It would be a real shame to skip Soarin. I am afraid of heights (but I suspect less so than your husband) and loved Soarin. You really are about 15 feet off the floor, but it can seem higher. It isn't intense at all, but if the transit authority would bother him, then this would too. Asking for the front row might help here, because he will be lower to the ground. We actually asked for the top row our second time.

Actually I liked Peter Pan too despite the height.

I rode Space Mountain last time, which was a real feat for me!!! It really helped that it was dark in there, lol. I hate roller coasters because of the height, but I did ok on this one.

Maelstrom *might* be an issue too. SPOILER ahead.... At one point it looks like you are going out of the cave and down a steep waterfall, but at the last second you switch directions and shoot down a slide instead.

I guess i should have added the rides he will not ride...
Astro Orbiter
Big thunder Mt
Soaring
Everest
ToT
RnR
and we are doing the tame version of Mission. I have heard solo riders get similar treatment as fast pass, does anyone know about this?
Thanks a bunch

As i said in my last post on this thread Splash Mountain is a high lookout over the MK when you are about to drop.

Personally I'm not afraid of heights but, I think your DH wuold be able to handle those rides except for Astro Orbiter and SM b/c of the height otherwise I think he could handle the rest of them.

I too share the fear of heights with your DH. Last year I had a panic attack while doing the Tree House in MK, still have not lived that one down. That said I did ride soarin twice and I loved it, but I did close my eyes while it was lifting up. It's such a smooth ride I don't think your DH will have an issue with the motion part of it. It's a wonderful ride and he may really enjoy it.:goodvibes

Big Thunder may not be a bad one for him. The way Disney built it, the track is on the "ground" of the mountain the whole time. That is to say that it is not like roller coasters in other parks where you can look down and see how high up you are. You are riding on a track where you could practically touch the ground around you.

Other attractions he would enjoy include Buzz, Alien Enounter, Indy Speedway, Small World, Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Tiki Room, Haunted Mansion, Philharmagic, Hall of Presidents, and Country Bear Jamboree.

In Epcot, Test track should be fine.

If motion sickness is an issue, maybe avoid Star Tours in MGM. The last time I went, I felt dizzy and nauseous for an hour after. Other than that and TOT, MGM should be OK.

Everest is going to be more like the Big Thunder effect, you don't actually hover over the ground, so the height isn't that big of a problem. Dinosaur will be ok, but Primevil Whirl might bring on some motion problems. Kali will be fin.

There are plenty of shops around most rides to keep him busy while you ride the ones he won't ride though, so enjoy your trip! :goodvibes

Alien Encounter is closed to make room for Stitch's Great Escape.

I have a terrible, horrible, all consuming fear of heights. I, however, love Space Mountain, I think because it's dark in there, so you don't actually see how high you are.

I also like Thunder Mountain as it never goes all that high at all and lacks a big drop entirely, but you said he won't do that one. Tower of Terror is a no way for me (I did it once at DH's urging never to return or completely forgive him), and I always advise anyone with a fear of heights to completely avoid that one.

I would say, too, that Peter Pan was fine for me as it's not all that high and moves slowly enough that I didn't get upset.

I like Space Tours because the flight simulator never moves, so even if the scene looks high, I don't get upset because I know I'm not really high. It's more the motion simulator of it that might get him if he's prone to airsickness. But, he could try it and just close his eyes if there's something that bothers him. That ride does not have any scenes where you seem to just be high up, however, and I really like it.

Good luck.

I'm not a big fan of heights but I don't have a problem with TTA, it's like driving on the highway (okay, except you're going 7 miles and hour) but the raised track doesn't freak me out at all and I get verdigo.

My fear of heights has gotten worse as I've gotten older. I can't ride rides that have huge drops that are outside. I thought I wouldn't do well on TOT but, I did fine since it is indoors and they only briefly open the doors to see the outside and you are up high for about 2 seconds...not long enough to get scared of the height. I do see how it can bother many people though.

Now about Soarin'...I went on it in 2002 in DL and loved it :goodvibes but went on it again this May in DL and almost had a fit because we were in the front row and I could see how far above the floor we were. My DH was great and held my hand and I just thought about how I would enjoy the ride. Once the movie started I was fine. It was just the going up that bothered me. Maybe sitting in a row further back would be better.

Space Mtn. doesn't bother me since it is in the dark. However, coasters that have HIGH drops make me close my eyes, which my DH says defeats the purpose of the ride. I just feel so out of control when dropping.

Splash Mtn. is one of my favorite rides and always has been. I have to say that the drop is about 5-8 seconds long and I keep my eyes open for the picture and then shut them till we hit the bottom.

I do NOT even try rides like Dumbo, Aladdin's Carpets, Astro Orbiter because I tried once and almost had a panic attack. Also keep in mind that the mouse coaster in AK (in Dinoland, can't think of the name right now) might be a problem. I had major issues and almost cried the whole ride on Mullholland Madness in DCA, which is a similar coaster. It was too high and I kept feeling like I was going to fall off!

Just choose rides that he thinks he can do and maybe try some that he is unsure of...they could be really fun.

My DH gets motion sick so we don't do the teacups, Star Tours, Mission Space or other things like that. In fact, I felt sick after Star Tours the last time I rode.

Have fun planning and have a great trip!!!
