Does anyone know where I can get affordable Disney DVD's that have been locked in the vault? I'm looking for movies like Snow White and Alice in Wonderland. I have seen some on ebay. Are they legit? Thanks for any help!

I think Snow White will be released again this fall. Not sure about Alice.

Snow White is being released again in October, it's available for pre-order already. Try half.com - it's owned by eBay but with set prices, no bidding. I got a new/sealed DVD of Beauty and the Beast from there not too long ago for only a little more than original retail price. (I look for new/sealed because I can about the package/condition. If all you want is a working DVD and don't care about the packaging you could probably get a used one for less.)

Thanks, I'll take a look now!

Some are legit, some aren't. Just be aware you are taking a risk.

Snow White is scheduled to be released October 6, 2009. I can't find a new release date for AIW, though.

I use to buy every Disney movie (the big ones) for my oldest son when he was little. I wish I had kept them (he riddled some, VCR ate some, lost others).

Just the other day I was showing my DS8 some of the Disney characters and he was like "who are they?". It donned on me that he isn't aware of anyone outside of the newer ones like Wall*e, POTC, and such. He had no idea who Aladdin and Jasmine or even the Lion King were.

I've been hitting eBay as well looking for some of these movies so he can watch them before we go. I want to even get the ones like Bambi from when I was a kid.

If you just want to watch them a couple of times (maybe just to introduce your child/children to some of the characters they'll see at the parks) then your local library system might have them! You might have a wait (I'm currently 12th out of 67 people in line waiting for Beauty and the Beast) but it's an alternative you might want to check into. A lot of library systems now have sophisticated online searching/requesting systems and many can procure materials from other nearby library systems.

Good luck!

I just wait for them to be re released because I'm afraid of buying one that isn't legit.

This is the website I use

http://www.ultimatedisney.com/OOP.htm

For example, Platinum editions of both Fantasias are set to be released in March of 2010. Alice in Wonderland has no new date yet, etc.

Check "Once Upon a Child" too.... If you have one.

I've seen some stuff there but like a PP said, I buy new. I'm weird but I care about the packaging. I've been working on building up a supply for when Lucas is older.

I've had luck on craigslist. I got Alice and Wonderland there as part of 6 DVDs for $20. That was a steal. I also got Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast off craigslist. They were $20 for both, which I thought was a good deal.

I did buy some off ebay that were obviously bootlegs, which really ticked me off...but that's what I get for buying from Malaysia.

*If you happen to want a Little Mermaid Platinum Edition (sealed) - PM me...I know where you can get one.

I have gotten several used on ebay that were fine, cases and dvd's in good condition. I also have gotten a couple that were new and authentic. The ones I bought were pictured well in the auction with actual pics instead of a stock photo. I would be hesitant about the "new, sealed" ones that come from anywhere outside the US. If you have doubts, email the seller.

Sometimes used bookstores that sell DVDs have harder to find Disney movies, but it is hit or miss.

I got Pocahontas and The Land Before Time (not Disney) at Goodwill for .97 cents. They always seem to have a decent selection of movies on VHS. I am fortunate, though b/c I bought many when I worked at CVS as a teenager, including The Little Mermaid, Alladin, Tarzan, The Lion King, etc. My kids love the old videos as much as I do.

What I never understood was what is with this "Disney Vault" nonsense?? Why not just have the DVDs available for purchase? Why "vault" them?

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! My girls have finally started to really like movies, so they are tired of the few we have. We have been to Disney several times and they love all the princesses they know, but they haven't seen Snow White, Pocahontas, Alice in Wonderland, Mary Poppins, and Aladdin. I'm on a list for the library, and then I'll try to find others from all the ideas here! Thank you! :worship:

Self manipulation of supply and demand - limit the supply, drive up the price.

If all Disney DVDs were always available then those older movies would be in the $5 rack at Best Buy all the time and only the newest movies would be $20. Vault them and you can keep all of them $20 when they are out. (Just like Aristocats last year.)

I find all of these at thrift stores for a dollar or two..great way to get your collection! (on VHS..if you don't have a VCR anymore you can these cheaply at yard sales also)
