Can anyone recommend a good portable dvd player? I would like to stay under $200 but don't know if that is possible and still get some quality. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help. :)

we have 2 made by polaroid. we only use them on flights, and in hotels while on vacation. we have had no problems with them - the picture quality is good, the sounds quality is so-so. They were about $200 when my mil bought them for my kids 2 years ago.

I took advantage of a Target clearance sale, maybe WalMart has a sale?

I saw one today in the paper for $258, BUT it had 2 viewable 6" screens and 2 headset jacks, really important if you have kids and are traveling by car. I think it was sold in either Target or K-Mart. I know it was more than you wanted to spend, but the 2 screens makes a viewing difference! Otherwise I usually see less expensive ones at Sams or Costco.

keep an eye on Kohl's too(especially those ads that come midweek)! Latley I have seen one there for $159 (the brand name was mintek). I have a mintek one I got at Kohl's before Christmas and it works great...good sound...crisp picture...battery lasts about 4 hours.

We have an audiovox we bought at walmart about 18 mos ago. It is a 7" screen and both sound and picture quality is good. We purchased it for around $186. We have used it on many car trips as well as on the Magic and at WDW. I'm sure we won't leave home without it in Sept either. We have not had any problems with it and I don't hesitate to recommend it. HTH

We just bought a polaroid one from Circuit City for $149 + it has a $20 mail in rebate.

We just purchased a 7 inch polaroid, with travel case for 129.00 :Pinkbounc (after mail in rebates) @ cuircit city..Tested it out with kids this weekend :3dglasses ...kids loved it...ps..get the adaptor that feeds sound through the radio. then u can fade to back & U controll the volume! :wave2:

Go to Cosco or Target or Walmart...prices went way down for 5' screens and a little down for 7' screens since a new bigger screen size came out...good luck!

I also got the 7 inch Polaroid one from circuit city. its great bargain. $129. after rebate. I got it father day weekend when you got the carrying case free after rebate. that made the deal even sweeter.

I just bought my daughter a Mintek 7" one at Costco. It came with a carrying case and car adapter. It was $139 but they have a $20 in-store coupon you can use so it was only $119.

WOW - lots of great recommendations. Thanks so much - at least I have narrowed it down a bit. I am hoping to get one for our August trip to WDW.
Thanks again!!! :cheer2:

I got an 8" Kawasaki player at Target last fall for $160 - and it was money extremely well spent!

Where do you find the adapter that feeds the sound through the radio? I would definitely be interested in this! Thanks!

Well, I did alot of research before I bought mine. I finally settled on the one at Wal-mart. It was $248.00. But for that, it had two 7inch screens, rechargable battery, car case, wall plug, car plug, and while one person is watching a dvd the other person can be playing a video game on the other screen. It was really the best value for all the things you get.

We have one portable dvd player and DH just returned from a trip w/ 2 of our 4 kids and said they fought over it. Sooooooo, as of today, I'm in the market for another to take on our Sept trip with all 4 kids!

I could swear I saw them this past spring at target for $99 (??????)

RadioShack has one in their ad for a 7 inch for $129 after rebates, didn't catch the brand though.

We are in the market for one too.

HTH

Just a quick comment on the ones that feed through the radio. We have an LCD flip down screen in our van with a VCR under the passenger seat, and the audio is through our radio. This is great for the kids, but the driver and passenger in the front are pretty much on their own. You can't see the screen, but can hear the audio of whatever movie is playing. We are going to Best Buy this weekend to see what we can find as far as switching out to something with headphones and not going through our radio, so that while the kids are watching a movie, we can listen to an audiobook or the radio.
