Hi There,
Just wondering if anyone knew what the most affordable types of wedding cakes through DFTW are? I am thinking of eithier a smaller 2 or 3 tier mickey swirl cake and then a sheet cake off to the side??

Also has anyone ever heard of DFTW doing cupcakes instead of a traditional cake? Would this lower the cost at all? I love the idea on small cupcakes but don't know how limited I would be with flavors etc.

If anyone has any solutions or ideas please let me know, I am open to anything :)

With 150 guests we sure do need a lot of cake, but the prices of $13-$18/slice seem a little pricy to me...

I used the 'Mickey's Delight' round model and I believe it was one of the cheapest cakes at the time... $8.50/slice.

we fed 75 guests with it :)

Maybe ask about the cost of one of the Escape style cakes, and then add the sheet cake..since Carrie's out of town

From Carrie's Book:
A common money-saving tactic is to order a smaller wedding cake for display along with sheet cakes in the same flavors for serving guests. A quarter sheet cake serves 25 guests and costs $55, a half sheet cake serves 50 and costs $80, and a full sheet cake serves 100 and costs $120. These are covered in buttercream and are not meant for display.

if you hear anything about cupcakes let me know! i want to keep the cost of the cake down also and would love to hear all options. i mean $18 a slice is ridiculous! if i was having my wedding here in NY i would totally do a cupcake cake! not sure if DF would love it but i am a HUGE CUPCAKE FAN!

I originally wanted the bridge to happiness cake. I requested it without fondant and it lowered the price to $9.00 per person

Disney does do mini-cakes, I think that is their version of cupcakes. They are adorable, but (last time I checked) they were almost twice as much as regular cake.
I had the HEA cake and loved it. They put crystals on the edge of each tier and it was beautiful. It was $12.50/slice.
My sister had a mad hatter cake and I think it was $1k total.

Oh I love it Meg, that is what we were thinking! I love the simple silver mickey heads it is my fave design of cake by far, and 8.50 isn't that bad eithier:goodvibes Thanks!

Thanks, I think a small cake like Meg's and a sheet cake would be perfect! And thank you for playing the role of Carrie:rotfl2:, she is missed when she is not around thats for sure:rolleyes:

I will, I think I'll ask my planner via email... I'll keep you posted

hmmm didn't realize you could do that, good idea Carolina! And the Bridge to Happiness Cake is so pretty! I can't wait to see pics of it from your wedding:goodvibes

Yikes!!! My goal is to under 1K for all the guests cake... we'll see if that happens lol!

That is one of my favorite cakes Meg. It is simple and elegant.
Do you know how they make the little silver mickey heads? I wonder if it is something that they just stick on there.

My reason for asking is that if they just stick them on there, why can't they do that on the cruise cakes??

As a former cater waitress i can attest that at many weddings all over the place, people often do the sheet cake thing and the guests never know the difference! You get a smaller fancy tiered cake and a huge sheet cake out back. Makes it much easier to cut & serve too!

I don't know much about them but I was thinking about it the other day. All of the little mickeys are perfectly spaced. I was thinking that they must have some sort of a template for them. Some of the cakes I have seen look like the mickeys have been spray painted on and others look like they are little bits of fondant.

I had the same cake as Meg - it was the cheapest option at the time and I had over 150 guests. I had the cake for 50 people.. and then a sheet cake for 100. No one notices that your cake isn't HUGE... oh, and we cut the top layer to serve too because we're cheap and didn't want extra cake invading our freezer for a whole year.

Just double checked.. it was under $1K for my cake. That includes the moving fees and all.. it was in 2008 but I'm sure you can get close to my total!

I have to say that I think I have a picture making a very similar face! It's called the, "It's so pretty I don't wanna cut it!" face. :lmao:

And as far as cake $$-- ours was a plain old, (3 different flavored tier) Disney cake w/ fondant and we provided the crystal jewelry. It originally was $8.50/slice and was bumped up to $9.50 when we added "luster dust" to make the cake shimmer.

Still, Disney definitely does reasonable cakes! Just remember-- fresh flowers are cheaper than sugar flowers- and simpler decorations (like the cute mickey heads) = less moolah!

I'm sorry-- I think I need to clarify. The cake itself w/o the Swarovski crystals was 9.50/slice. The cake jewelry and topper were I think $500-$600 (topper was $130, bands somewhere in the $400-$450 range). I just wanted to be sure you added the cost of those in too. It still was cheaper for us to use the crystals that I'd always wanted on my cake than chose one of the other complicated/intricate cakes that Disney offers. (Plus we liked how "clean" and sparkly our cake was)

And I have no idea how much Disney is charging for the crystal cake now that they sell it-- you'll have to let me know! :thumbsup2

Hope this helps a little, Sam. :goodvibes

that is such a cute cake topper!! where did you find that?

A co-worker actually gave it to me as a shower gift, but I know they have them all over, wherever they carry 'Precious Moments' figurines, like card stores. They also have it at DTD. :) Thanks for the compliment btw :goodvibes

And I don't know how they get those mickey's on! I think mine were spray painted onto the fondant because a few smudged when I was wrapping the top layer for the freezer. :confused3
