I am wanting to book for fall 2014 so looking at booking those flights this fall when they are released....my question is this

how do people book that far in advance not knowing what the discounts will be?? I am hoping for free dining or room only discount but I know sometimes that the first week in October isn't included in discount promos.

what does everyone do when they book their flights soooo far ahead of time?!?!

I guess all you can do is look at what has been offered when in the past. We have done this and you just do as much research as you can, fit it in with what's available and what works with the rest of your life. (Long weekends or school holidays...the boards don't post that far ahead, but you can predict pretty well from old calendars.) Get the best price you can when you book, and keep checking. I have set up reminders in my outlook calendar--right now it's reminding me to check for improved car rental rates, now that we are 6 wks out. It's not fool proof and there will be something that doesn't work the way you'd hoped, but there may be other opportunities that arise. (We got to see the last launch of Space Shuttle Discovery in Feb 11, which was moved to that date because of a glitch well after we booked.) Just do your research sooner rather than later, because when the flights open up (360 days ahead or something like that?) you want to be able to book without having to check a million other things first.

thanks...it is worth it for us to use points for five flights as it allows us to stay deluxe while there....we have never booked this early before though and paid for the flights which are still cheap out of buffalo but 1000 is better in my pocket...am leaning towards late september and fingers crossed it works out!

Have you visited the Aeroplan website recently? Not sure if this will help you, but as of Jan. 1, 2014 Aeroplan is upping its game for people who accumulate over 25,000 miles during 2013. There is supposed to be a 20% discount on travel (other rewards too? can't recall), with larger discounts at different point levels.

We fly to Orlando 5 or 6 times every year and we always use our Aeroplan points. But we ALWAYS book as early as we can, usually about 340 days out. If you have five flights to book, my advice would be to book as early as possible.

Flights open up 356 days out but you would have to wait the corresponding number of days of your trip to book your outbound and inbound flights together.

Good luck.

Trying to coordinate rewards with discounts is a guaranteed way to create a major headache!!

Try to plan your vacation during a period that historically offers resort or dining discounts. Avoid general holidays such as thanksgiving as they are often excluded from discounts. Book only what you can afford and/or are willing to pay in case you do not get a room discount. Book your flights a.s.a.p. and then keep your fingers crossed that the discount fairy is watching out for you!

Thanks. We are debating between sept and October 2014. Historically more discounts in September but am worried how hot it will be!
