Advise on dryer sheets used as repellent~

OK...
Am I losing it or does anyone else remember an old thread about
'using drying fabric sheets as insect repellent'. Appreciate your help as we prefer not to use anything w/DEET. Also, has anyone had good luck w/ Avon's
'Skin So Soft'. My son confirms the military recommends it.

Years ago, I remember we were so desperate with a dog flee problem that we were rubbing the poor dog with Skin So Soft. Killed the little buggers and kept them away but we had one greasy dog. The list of things that it is suppose to do is hysterical, right down to removing tar from your driveway. It is a good alternative to bug repellant if you want to go chemical free.

I don't know about dryer sheets having been mentioned here, but I have heard that they work to repel moths or mice from long time storage areas like basement drawers and boxes. I leave one in the luggage between trips for the scent.

Have relatives that live on Hilton Head.Their golfer neighbors swear by these fabric softner sheets for noseeums while out on the links.We stick with deep woods off.

My mother always said that if she was going outside, she'd want me to go with her because I'd keep all the mosquitos away from her. I guess some people are just the first to be bitten

Anyway, I've had pretty good luck with Off Botanicals. Reports I've read said it compares with using Deep Woods Off and lasts for up to two hours without reapplication. This seems to be true for me when I've used it. And, as far as I know - no DEET.

Have never tried the dryer sheets... might give that one a go sometime too

I am just like Cruise. Bugs love me. I use Skin So Soft and it works for me. My girls use it, too.

My daughter is very allergic to mosquito bites and gets huge knots on her skin. Because she is just three, we don't like DEET stuff. So we use the Skin So Soft. It works like a charm. My grandfather always keep it in his fishing tackle box when he was alive, he swore by the stuff.

If you are interested, Avon also makes a true "bug repellent" with the SOS "active" ingredients. It just doesn't smell. Some of the types also have sunscreen, sort of a one rub does it all thing. They seem to work as well as the true SOS, but I haven't put them completely to the test.

for insect repellant all summer long here and camping in the mountains as well and have not been bitten yet! They are wonderful to use, easy to pack, make your clothes smell nice, it doesnt explode in your luggage and they are convenient! We wipe our bodies down with them and then try to tuck them inconspicuously on our body somewhere like tied to a beltloop. One word about them though...they are pretty scratchy so be careful when rubbing on your skin. We swear by them and with 3 kids who would be miserable with mosquito bites we would never be caught dead without them!! I pack them EVERYWHERE we go just in case and they are easy to pack!!! My fil is a fisherman who goes out ALOT as is my bil and they swear by them as well.

We've used Skin So Soft for years...AVON also has a Skin So Soft Bug Guard product which you can get in several varieties (herbal scent, original scent...both are available with or without SPF)...also they have a "Cool & Fabulous" which is marketed for children.


The diluted bath oil (Skin So Soft and water) can be used for many things...for example, spray it on your dogs (it's a great moisturizer for dry doggie skin and it keeps the bugs off)...also can be used to spray on window/door screens as a repellent.

Both are great products!!
