I have been reading many things about fp+ and am worried about next trip to disney. I have a knee problem and can not stand still on my leg for long periods of time or it swells up and is very painful walking is fine just not standing on it so we always used fast pass so I could enjoy my day with less pain I will not wait more than 20 min for a ride line or by end of day I can almost not walk. From what I reading except for your three rides with fp+ you will be in long lines all day long is ft+ making lines longer or is it working so standby is indeed faster. This will really impact if I can enjoy disney like we used to with fastpass it really helped me.
Please if you have been with new system would love to hear how it has effected lines.

We have visited the parks twice since FP+ was instituted and I don't think lines were impacted positively or negatively to be honest. It may have been he time of year (we tend to go during more off-peak times), but we liked FP+.

Obviously, you will want to use for just the E-Ticket attractions (that are available in each tier). But I guess my advice is plan your trips outside of the traditional heavy waiting times and assuming you are staying on property, take a break in the middle of the day.

thanks for your input I hope it is not as bad as some people are making it out to be we used the fastpass at all attractions with long waits to save on my knee if you have never had knee problems it may not make sence but I can walk and walk and walk but as soon as I stand still for long periods it swells and I can not even bend my knee so long waits kill me that is why I loved fastpass so I worry without it we will miss out on a lot that I just cant wait in line I wish Disney would have some seating for people like me when waiting a long time that would help a lot. I may have to ask my doctor or physical therapist for a letter or note to get me a handicap pass I know lots of people do that. I just always used fastpass.

It sounds like DAS may be a good idea for you, though there is no documentation needed.

thank you so much I just went and read about the DAS card it sounds like just what I need I can go to a attraction that says 60 min wait and get a time to come back in 60 min to ride and not have to stress my knee in line I can go and find a place to sit and wait that is great. I am so glad they have this option I thought they only had disability cards for like people with severe problems and my problem while severe to me is not like some peoples disabilities the das card will be good for my husband in summer as well he is diabetic and standing in severe heat waiting is not great for him.

You might want to read on the Disabilities board for clarifications. The new DAS is much more strict as to who qualifies.

You should post your question on the disabilities board as there are plenty of people who've probably had very similar issues as you've described.

Having said that, from what I've read on that board, people with mobility issues are usually directed to use mobility devices by Guest Services at Walt Disney World.

except I can walk fine until my knee swells up from standing still on it I do ok if I leave my family in line to wait and I walk around or sit and then can get back into line with them but people get pissed when you do that. I know when we went to harry potter at universal waiting for two hours to get into the wand experience that is what I did my family waited in line and I walked around and went and sat at the owlery and went back to see how far the lined moved and joined them when they were up to enter that helped a lot I do not need a wheelchair or scooter I can walk for hours just cant put weight for extended time on knee in one postion because it swells up and then my knee will not bend.

This.

Also, if the "only" problem that you have is physically standing in the lines, Disney offers red wheelchairs at the front of most of the lines now so you don't have to stand. You use it for the line only on that ride. They've been providing these more and more for this reason.

It would probably be a good idea for you to post your question on the DisAbilites board.

I think if you're expecting to get a DAS for a mobility issue alone, which this is, you will probably be disappointed.

OP, I understand you concerns. My problem is with my feet. I to can walk most of the day and have Advil handle my pain but standing still or hardly moving for periods of 30 minutes or more will give me very painful feet. Makes it hard to walk. I could do it once or twice but much more than that and my day is shorten. This why the old FP system worked great for us. The lines that didn't have FPs were never very long and we were able to FPs those that did and had longer lines.

My understand too was if it was a mobility issue, you would just need to rent a wheelchair. This not an expense we want when I really don't have any problems walking.

Good luck with your trip. I hope it all works out fine for you!

For mobility issues Disney's standard response is to use a wheelchair.

Thank you AmyB for this info. How do you go about getting the use of one of these?

thank you so much I did not know that. the red chairs would be all I need in the lines over a 20 min wait I was almost considering looking for a small stool that folds that I could carry but that would be a pain I really love to walk and was wishing Disney would put in some seating in the lines. If I had access to a seat I would not have a problem.
I am also going to ask my physical therapist to give me some more exercises that might help I already do lots to strengthen my knee .

thanks it is nice to hear from someone who gets it I don't want to pay extra for a wheelchair that I really only need in long line waits I wish I could just have my knee fixed but it is a weird disorder and the only thing I can do is stay away from salt drink lots of water and do my exercises from my physical therapist but its just not enough when standing still with weight on it just freezes it right up its gets so swollen that I cant even bend my knee then even sitting with knee bent hurts.

Hi hon
I am in the same boat.
I wish there were more seats at Disney world.
I am currently walking each day on my treadmill to increase my endurance,
( a small fall at the local Walmart store) has put me back a bit.
I am eliminating as much salt as possible and trying to drink more water.
I will be taking a knee brace and advil with me to the parks.
I am going to try EMH morning this year, hoping to get 2-3 rides during that time frame. Then I have 3FP+ scheduled, and BOG lunch FP+.
++Mickeys PhilarMagic and Carousel of Progress are great places to rest the knee.
I will head back to the resort and ice and rest my legs-and hot tub. I do have a evening Wishes fireworks dessert Party booked as I just can't stand in the evenings and I loves Wishes.
My motto is "never pass a park bench without trying it out".
Best wishes to you and have a great Trip!
Hugs Mel

PS
if your knee gets really bad check out the First Aid station and see if they can help you out with an ice pack and a space to rest your knee.

I don't know what your group looks like, but it may work out to take one of those walkers that has a seat. In addition to giving you a seat when you need one, you may be able to stash thing in it or have a hanging bag for your stuff. Plus if there are kids, they can have a seat and sort of ride around a bit like a stroller for short periods.
The downside to the idea of Disney putting benches or seating in line areas is that the lines move too fast to sit still, but too slow for it to be walking. If you want a seat, you really need a mobile seat. Then there would be the issue that they can't guarantee you would get the seat. Of course on the day you need it most you will follow some group into the line all of whom "need" the bench because they are tired.

standing during parades and fireworks is actually the hardest on my knee I am going to bring small blanket to sit on ground.

I used to be able to avoid lines with fastpas just worried I wont get to do much with that option downsized to three. I take four advil every four hours when at parks per my doctors orders and he says to walk.

I was going to look at camping gear and see if I can find a small little folding seat I am too young to use a walker seat I would feel stupid walking around with it and I like to walk fast I am tall and have long legs my family can not even keep up with me I am a fast walker I would get sick of dragging it around but it is a good suggestion I might consider it at animal kingdom that park kills me from walking as well as my knee it is the one park I might consider a wheelchair

:rotfl2: I tried sitting on the ground once while waiting for a bus to AKL and my knee locked up,my poor sons had to hoist me up to get on the bus.

Yes I do think I will get to do much less this trip if all the reports about stand-by lines being long are true,I was able to do quite a bit with regular FP. i realize spring break is busy so I am trying to be optimistic.
Time will tell.
I'm willing to carry a small camping stool but I'm not sure what Disney's rules on that would be.
My problem is sitting is not the best either-i need to keep moving.
