Hi, I'm a new user, just back there from DLP and heading once again to WDW next year.

Looking a bit of advice on thing to do that i may have missed before. I have had a suggestion to go on the 'back stage' tour by a relative and was wondering does anyone have any other suggestions

Many Thanks

Neo

There are loads of back stage tours to choose from, lasting from a couple of hours to a full day. THere are the carriage rides at fort wilderness & the hard ticket events if you're there over halloween or December. We're doing a hot air balloon ride when we go next summer (surprise for DD) whilst DH & youngest will be in the "chase" crew (DH hates heights). It's a sunrise trip, so hoping for good weather.

the segway around the world tour at epcot is a lot of fun...
the 'behind the seeds' tour at epcot is very interesting...
a guided fishing excursion on bay lake is very relaxing...
then of course there's always boat and bike rentals....also lots of fun...

Hello and welcome! :wave2:

Don't listen to advice from anyone with a strange moustache! LOL! ;)

Seriously, we loved the keys to the kingdom tour. It was informative and fun, just wear comfy shoes!

We loved looking round other on site resorts, even though we were staying off site. We have had meals at some of the resorts and these were highlights of the trip.

I would recommend an illumiNation cruise if you can get one. It was FAB!!! :cool1: Check out the US planning board for spaces if you can't get one yourself. They also do a wishes cruise, which i would like to do as well.

in the future i would love to do a segway tour at EPCOT. It looks SO fun!!

I'll be back if i think of more! :)

Hey Verity, good to see you, fancy meeting you here! Where do you see about the two cruises?

Whats this about strange moustaches?

Thought you meant my Dad! LOL!

If you go to Theme park, attractions and strategies board. there is a sticky near the top:illuminations cruises, how to book one. Find one to share.

You should get what you want from there.

we also love to look around at the other onsite resorts....even though we always stay onsite now and have stayed at most of the resorts, it's still fun to visit the others, especially when they build a new one.....

i have to disagree about the illuminations cruise.....we didn't like this one at all and felt it was a terrible waste of money...
however, we did think the Wishes cruise is great.....
but we're probably in the minority regarding our opinion of the illuminations cruise...

another nice thing to do that you may well have already done is walking around the Boardwalk in the evening....they have street performers who are very good.....and anyone who's been coming to WDW for a few years will probably recognize some of the performers from other places that no longer exist (like the magician from diamond horseshoe review, the juggler from hunchback of notre dame, etc.)...

which reminds me, the pianoman at Port Orleans Riverside (formerly known as Dixie Landings) is great fun....i don't know what nights he plays in the bar there....it's usually standing room only....

and the dueling pianos at jelly rolls is also fun - but there you have to be 21 years olds, plus there's a cover charge of $8....

as for other behind the scenes tours, if you go to the official disney website (you can get there via www.disney.com) and go to each theme park, there's tour information for that park.....as i said, we really enjoyed the Segway Around the World Tour at Epcot (costs about $80 or so, and you can get an AP discount if you have one), and we also enjoyed the Behind the Seeds tour at the Land pavilion.....

Whoops, how could i forget your dads moustache! :guilty:

Will have to have a look at the both the tours, but will probably go for the illuminations tour, we did get engaged at it after all!

Thanks for the advice, and if you come up with anything else make sure to shout!

illuminations isn't a tour, it's a 'cruise'....they pick you up from one of the epcot hotels in one of those pontoon boats that hold 12 people and take you over to epcot and dock just under the bridge there so you have ringside seats for illuminations...(that is, you sit on the boat and watch the fireworks)..
then they take you back to wherever they picked you up..
i don't remember how much it cost but i think it was a couple hundred dollars or so.....not worth it in my opinion....especially since i hate illuminations..

How long does the cruise go on for?

N :earsboy:

i can't remember when they picked us up...illuminations is at 9 PM....so you have to dock before that...there were a few boats docked side by side (some boats had a better view than others - that is, some had a slightly obstructed view)...
let's see....i can't remember when they picked us up...we were at the yacht club....they picked us up, took us for a short ride around that lake (which is a small lake) and then over to epcot.....maybe they picked us up at 7:45, maybe a little later....we did it a few years ago....

Thats great, Will look a bit further into it, Thanks for the advice!

Apreciate it

You will love the Illuminations Cruise :) I have done it on a couple of occasions and think it is well worth the money.

It is great if you can snag one and then share it with others, brings the cost down a bit. It is lovely to watch the Illuminations from the boat :)

Here is the LINK to the thread Verity told you about :)

Anymore questions ask away :)

and it was the lowlight of ours....didn't ruin it since nothing ruins our WDW holidays, but if anything could have, the illuminations cruise certainly could have ruined our holiday had we let it....it was awful...

but different strokes for different folks...

At least you know not to do it again then :) You can move on any enjoy other things that WDW has to offer.

like the wishes cruise, which we did enjoy and would certainly do again.....

by the way, i don't know how people share the fireworks cruises, since on the illuminations cruise we were on, there were only 4 seats that had a good view...the rest of the seats on the boat had seriously obstructed views...

Is it the same sor of boats on both cruises?

N

they mostly use the pontoon boats (those big boats that hold 12 people or so)...
but for illuminations, i think you can also rent the speedboat that's usually docked at the yacht club marina....the speed boat is more expensive, but you probably feel really cool riding around in it....sort of like being in a porsche or something like that....i don't know how many people it holds....

for wishes, in addition to the pontoon boats there is a very fancy yacht, docked at the GF....i don't know if that can also be used on the wishes cruise or not....it must be pretty neat being on it though....i think you can rent that with a full room service dinner served as well....

one time when we were at the GF we saw it being prepared to go out and asked.....they said it was a company board of directors that was going out on it....so i'm sure it must be pretty expensive...
