Wasn't sure which board to put this on...but, I am going on a disney cruise and would like to plan a surprise for my wife and daughter. We arrive about 2:30 at Orlando Int'l airport and have booked a room for 1 night at the Yacht Club Resort. My wife loves Fantasmic and Sci-Fi Dine-in and 2 year old daughter loves the Muppets and Disney Junior. Consequently, I think that I am going to go to Disney Studios that evening for a few hours and have dinner at Sci-Fi. In addition, I am renting a car from Avis at the airport and am driving to the Yacht Club. My question is...what time could I reasonably expect to arrive at the Yacht Club, check-in and get to the studios? Specifically, what time should I book a reservation for Sci-Fi for dinner? Fantasmic only has one show that night at 7:00 PM. Thanks in advance for any help.

I think it might be too tight a time frame to include an ADR. You should expect to get to the Yacht Club around 4, and if you can get a 5:00 ADR for Sci-Fi it should be enough time, but if you can't get a 5:00 or if they can't seat you right away, you could really be pushing it. That's assuming too that your flight is on time and that it doesn't take too long to wait for your luggage or get your rental car.

Thanks for the advice. What if I am able to get a Fantasmic Fastpass+? I was able to get a 5:15 ADR for Sci-Fi. How does the fastpass for Fanstasmic work? How early do you have to be there?

When I used FP+ in Sept. for Fantasmic it wasn't about getting there at any particular time..yes you should start heading towards the theater at least 1/2 hour before show starts. Basically like the dinning package, there's a designated section of the theater for FP+ guests...so when you arrive you will be directed to that area of the arena and then you'll pick your seats based on what's there. So as long as you arrive before the show you will be seated.

It sounds like you have things pretty much planned and I am assuming you purchased park tickets, etc. It's just that I have another suggestion as to a special activity you may want to check into for that evening...an Illuminations Cruise. DH surprised me with one for our anniversary and it was GREAT. They leave from the dock at the YC (weather permitting) we took a ride on the boat up to DHS then back to EPCOT and they parked boat under the bridge by France and we had the best view ever of Illuminations. DS was 2 at the time and he enjoyed it as well. DH had balloons and banner on the boat and also had chocolate covered strawberries and champagne on board (there's a special # you can call to order snacks, cakes to a full meal for the boat at an extra cost of course).

This is somewhat expensive, but probably not much more than the cost of tickets to enter DHS and dinner and such. So you can arrive at YC - enjoy the resort and BW area and then take the cruise (it leaves about an hour before Illuminations).

This is just a thought I figured I'd share. I love staying in the BW, BC, YC area and have found over the years we've gone there we have been enjoying the extras and other activities in that area for a change as opposed to going to the parks...

I've heard that they no longer offer the designated seating for FP+, it's just a different line. Originally, I was going to use FP, but when I heard about this I just got the dinner pkg with reserved seating. Of course I have not experienced this yet, so maybe someone else can weigh in that's in the know ;)

Nope, there's no longer any reserved seating with a Fantasmic FP. This is a good thread to keep bookmarked for information on FP+ (The first post is dated July, but if you look at the bottom of the post, you'll see that it was last updated a week ago):

With the Fantasmic Fp+, you will be guaranteed seats in the left sections of the amphitheater. Standby guests are seated on the right side. About 5 minutes before showtime, remaining standby guests will be allowed into the Fp+ area and SRO areas.

On Tuesday, we had a 2:55 ADR for Sci-Fi and were finished with our meals by 4:00. You should have plenty of time to get to Fantasmic after your meal.
