Hi--I am planning a trip to WDW in January. This will be the first time I have needed a rental car for my trip. I have been reading threads and doing research but am feeling a little lost and overwhelmed at this point. :confused3

Can anyone tell me please:

Is it cheaper to pick up a car at MCO and return to MCO or to pickup at a location in WDW (which is what I prefer). I would rather take Magical Express to the resort and then pick up a vehicle. Best place/agency in WDW
to do this?

I have a Disney Visa and am a member at Sam's Club. Do they offer any discounts?

And lastly, how do ppl get the discounts? I have seen a whole week of rental at $150 on some threads. I don't understand how the discounts are obtained.

Forgive me since I am pretty new to this. Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated. :)

If you want to take ME, the best place to rent is the WDW Car Care Center - this includes National and Alamo, you call the day before you leave to arrange for a shuttle with the company you rent from - they will pick you up at your resort to take you to your car - when you return your car, the gas station is right beside the rental building, and the shuttle will take you back to your resort. You can look up discounts on the DIS or on mousesavers.com.

Join all of the rental car company clubs. Each company has a loyalty club that is usually free to join. This will get you into their system and make some discounts available. It also can speed up the process when picking up and dropping off a car. Check the web for cheap rental car deals. Carrentalsavers.com can compare all of the major rental agencies and can show the applicable discounts for most of them. You just have to keep checking and checking. Check the terms on canceling and book when you find a good price. If you can cancel or change your reservation without fees then keep checking all the way up to your travel day. Remenber weely rates are usually better than a few day rental. This past May I rented a car for a week for less than the 4 days that I really needed it. I just drove it around for a few extra days. Be sure to read the rental agreement fine print carefully. I have never really had a problem, but some of the rules can be pretty strict. I alway ask about upgrades when I have to pick up a car at the desk and have gotten better cars about half of the times for nothing or very little extra money. It is quite a game trying to find the best deal. Good Luck!:thumbsup2

Thanks so much guys. I really appreciate the advice. Trying to learn all I can. :)

Well, my post may not help with your confusion. The straight answer to your question is "It depends".

There aren't any hard and fast rules about which is cheaper to do and also which is the better company to rent from. You really need to price out the different options (airport/Disney and all the rental companies) to find out which works for you.

First, go to www.mousesavers.com and look for their list of available rental discounts. Make a list of what you're eligible for. Then go to this thread for a list of car rental locations at Disney. With that info, plus your travel dates, go to each rental company's website and try the different codes.

Its a lot of work. :surfweb:
