My husband and I are frequent travelers to WDW, however, this is the first time we are taking our almost 3 year old. We are almost ready to reserve our FP times, but are confused as to what the best routine should be. Should we reserve in the mornings since we will try to get there when they first open, then head back to room around lunchtime and then back to the parks in the late aft/evening? Or following that same time schedule, should we go early morning without fast passes scheduled, head back to room at lunchtime and then schedule fastpasses in the late aft/evening? All advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Touring plans website has a great article about this. The highlights are that if you are there for ropedrop you should ride standby till about 10am. The crowd really hits at 10:30. Here is the address of the article touringplans dot com/magic-kingdom/traffic-patterns

I reserved most of mine for mid morning to early afternoon. I just don't want to wind up waiting in the miorning for every ride and then wind up not feeling like stayin in the park for the evening FP.
There are a couple of days where I plan on arriving late to the park and got evening FPs for those days.
But I am going to be there for two weeks .... If I were only there for 5 or 7 days, I'm sure I'd stay in the park and might schedule my FPs differently .

Another factor to consider is that you can only schedule that 4th (5th, 6th, etc) fastpass AFTER the first three have been used. If you are ok with an easy going schedule, standby in the morning and FP in the afternoon/evening is the way to go. This was our strategy the first week of June and it worked beautifully.

If you really want to go commando and use more than 3 FP, then you would want to schedule them earlier in the day so you can get #4.
