I hope I have this in the right spot . . .

I have 2 young ones plus will be travelling with DH and DMIL - we need to stop in Atlanta because the drive is too long for one day but I'm having a terrible time trying to find a nice hotel.

The kids will really want to get out and walk around and I don't know enough about Atlanta to know which areas are OK for walking around in - I know that some are definitely NOT places where I'd want to get out and walk, for safety reasons.

Can anyone advise on any areas/hotels that might be good? :confused3

Thanks everyone!!

My sister lives in Atlanta, and I've lived in Ga. all my life, and I wouldn't stop there. It's too big and confusing if you don't know your way around. If you want to drive maybe 4 more hours, here in Savannah there are several nice hotels right off of I-95.

I'd try to get further south, like maybe to Tifton. Lots of motel rooms and restaurants and pretty much right off the interstate so no chance of getting lost in a less-than-savory area. Plus you have less of a drive in the morning and that's always a plus.

WE like to stop in Savanna too. Lower rates and nice resturants. WE really just want clean and safe. We get there late and leave early. Hampton inn there is good. WE have learned that calling ahead, even an hour, gets you a better rate. WE never book before leaving home and just judge when we get too tired to go on.

If you're stopping in Atlanta, Savannah will be waaaaay out of your way. You'll hit I75 in Atlanta and then it's a straight shot to the FL Turnpike. I see you're from Alabama. Me too. Are you coming from somewhere in Alabama? I would think if you were you could make it further than Atlanta as I think it will still be 6 plus hours to Orlando from there.

If I were you I would try to get past Macon, maybe towards Cordele, Tifton, or Valdosta. We drive from just north of Atlanta and we're usually there within 8-9 hours including stops with 2 kids, 6 & 3.

We are from North Alabama and yes, we drive farther than Atlanta on the way down - we actually usually get to Valdosta but this is for the trip back (sorry - I should have specified). We just got back last week and it was a long day after spending a week in the parks just to get from WDW to Atlanta and then we got lost finding the hotel - it was awful and worse because we were all just so pooped.

And yes - we do take I-20 and then I-75 to the Florida Turnpike so Savannah (although beautiful, been there) would be a little out of the way.

Any thoughts I guess on anything at least as far as Macon or further North - is Tifton North or South of Macon - OK - I'll go look as soon as I finish posting - thanks for everyone's thoughts - I really appreciate your help.

DIS was a huge help on our first trip so I knew you all would be a great help for this dilemna as well!

Thanks again!

We are driving from So. Indiana, we always try to make it to Macon. There is a Drury Inn there that has suites. Hotel is nice, they have popcorn and continental brkfst. I didin't know how nice you were looking for. We try to avoid the construction and traffic during the busy hours, but we have 3 young kids it all depends how long they hold out!
