Ok. Right now I have 3 rooms booked for the last week of Sept 2011 with free dining. I'm fairly certain that we've decided to switch it to the 3rd week in October instead. I'm hoping for some sort of discount or free dining.

My question is this. Do I change the date now and hope to add a discount when it becomes available or do I wait a bit longer until a discount offer becomes available? Is there any advantage of one way vs the other

Thanks,
Deb

No difference... Only when you switch, it will depend on availability.

Note that Oct 16-20, there will be a huge conference that takes over many rooms on the epcot lake hotels.

I don't think there was FD this year. There was however last year.

UGH!! Really? Do you know who it is or how many people that means? I'm wondering if it'd be better to switch it now so that I have a room booked for the week, and then hope they can use the same room for a promo....

Thanks!

This year's conference was about 10,000 between analysts and attendees. Last year's was only 7,000. To give you an idea of it's size, they book one of the parks for an evening for a private party. Interestingly enough, this year the event was held at IoA.

There is a certain number of rooms available on a promo. Sometimes, it's a resort could be pretty booked and might not even qualify for the promotion. Having a reservation (rack rate) does not guarantee you anything. You may find yourself having to switch properties in order to get a new promotion.

And, be careful about switching between room-only and package reservations. Two different systems and there's been cases, when one tried switching from one to another, only to find out the new reservation was not available, and the original got canceled.

Wow. I wonder how much this affects the crowd levels. I learned the hard way a few years ago about the room vs pkg ressies - had to call everyday until they had a cancellation! Boy was I lucky they did.

Does Disney publish conference schedules?

Thanks!

I wouldn't cancel September until you're sure about October - you may lose your free dining. Either wait until an offer comes out for October that you're happy with, or make two separate reservations and cancel one when you decide. You'll have to put down another $200 for the second one, but it's fully refundable. Better than switching, changing your mind - and then finding out free dining is no longer available for Sept.
