Hello,
My husband has a conference for work at Disney World in Sept and we just had our first baby boy. He will be 3 and a half months old. While I debated staying home, I love Disney and really want this trip to work out for all of us, but I am feeling nervous and overwhelmed about it right now. I have an ErgoBaby sling and we are planning on using a stroller. Will both/either of these come to good use? Will he be too hot in the ergobaby?
Can any other mothers tell me what there experience was like when or if they brought an infant? I have heard the baby centers are great, but I am worried he will still be eating alot by then, right now he feeds every 1 and a half to 2 and half hrs! And I am wondering how much time will actually be worth it in the parks..
Some other questions I had: What is best to dress baby in for such hot weather? Do infants get dehydrated even if they are being breastfed? Any advice is greatly appreciated!:scared:

I think bringing a three-month old to Disney would be so much fun for you!!! I would definitely do it, but I can see if it's your first child why it would be a touch unsettling. I will write more answers to your questions later when I get the chance. Running out the door now. But quickly wanted to reassure you. :)

I brought my 3 month old eating monster last year and it went great. I breastfed on demand around the park and made a point to stop every so often at a baby center to breast fed her again. I missed very little of what my family did. I had her in a wrap and carrier her all day. When it got too hot, I would soak the wrap and she was only wearing a onesie and diaper. My ped had told me that although babies are not suppose to have water, to bring some just in case as she might not want milk but might take water if I noticed that she was getting dehydrated. I didn't need to give her any. We made sure also to go back to our room around noon for a few hours to let the worse of the heat go by.

We went last year with my neice who was 8 weeks at the time. We all had a great time and I am going just a few months after DS is born in March.
My sister brought an ergo and we used that some and also used her stroller. We had a battery operated fan on the stroller my sister found on Amazon that helped. We dressed her in a onsie and a diaper only. She did amazing. We stopped every two hours at least to feed and change her. The baby stations were great, and if you are comfortable there are plenty of places to nurse her (dark theatre like attractions are great!). We kept a sun hat on her head at all times she was in out of the stroller. Watch for sun on his arms, etc too if they are exposed. The pediatrician told my sister to go ahead and use a little sunscreen on her arms and legs but not to put it on her hands. It's labeled 6 mths and up so ask your dr about it.
We had a great time with the baby and honestly she slept frequently. I would not hesitate to go and bring your DS along. You will have a wonderful time!!! :)

Each of our 3 kids made their first trip to Disney World at around 3 months old. All of them did just fine, just remember to be careful with the sun and heat and to take it easy. If I am completely honest 3 months was far easier than subsequent trips with toddlers! :lmao:

The advice given already is great. Haven't taken my son (19mon) yet but took him to many car shows and festivals starting at 2mon. My main concerns living in Florida were dehydration and sun exposure. I did put sunscreen on him at 3mon and was glad I did after seeing other babies and toddlers totally red. However, avoid putting the sunscreen on his hands and face. My son had an eye infection from rubbing his eyes. :( Floppy hats work best.
I also breastfed my son on demand but wasn't comfortable in the beginning feeding him in public so I made sure to find a private place every 2hrs and feed on schedule to avoid an extremely hungry baby at a very inconvenient time. If you're comfortable feeding with a blanket over your shoulder, you could essentially never stop for that reason.

I think being is WDW with a three month old is far better than being home alone with a three month old. Just with that thought in mind, I would definitely go and tag along on the business trip!!! At that age, a baby can be quite easy and portable. Here are a few tips:

-- I do think a sling gets hot because of body heat. I would also consider a stroller. We have one where the seat lays completely back and then a cover even hooks around the feet so it's like a bassinet. You could even have a fan or misting fan attached along with a shade. I just think this would be a cool break for both you and baby. Strolling around MK could be so relaxing shopping, eating Mickey ice cream bars, and going on a few rides together.

-- Your baby can easily go on gentle rides on your lap or while you wear him.

-- Our pediatrician told us too we can apply sunscreen at that age. We use Banana Boat Natural Reflect Baby SPF 50. It works great and is the kind that uses titanium dioxide & zinc oxide. Not those other chemicals.

-- Dress baby in simple white onesie. Nice & cool.

-- Nurse often so he doesn't get dehydrated. Even if he doesn't seem hungry, my ped told me to nurse often when in warmer temps. Just like we need extra hydration too! :) I would recommend with getting myself comfortable with nursing in public by ordering a Hooter Hider (http://www.amazon.com/Hooter-Hiders-Nursing-Cover-Nest/dp/B002MB4YYI) and practicing at home. These are awesome!

-- Use the baby stations as a place to get changed, freshened up, and reorganized. Also use the stores for air conditioning & a break from the heat.

-- Enjoy time at the pool & resort. You could place your son in a shaded spot by the pool while you lounge.

-- Request a crib at your hotel and it will be all set up when you arrive.

-- Remember that a tiny baby crying may sound loud to you, but it truly is so soft compared to the cries of older kids. Don't let it rattle you.

-- Delight in that time of year with lower crowds.

-- Go at your own pace & enjoy the World. At times it will feel like a peaceful solo trip. :)

And yes, it gets much more tiring and wearing when you have toddlers, and more than one at that! :) Enjoy this peaceful time with your baby. While it may feel frantic and like you're packing lots of gear, try to take it easy. I know you will look back at this trip with fond memories, and think, "wow, that was pretty easy!"

Enjoy!!! You most definitely should go!

Though I haven't been with a little baby, my youngest was 20 months our first trip, I have seen it done and honestly it looks so much easier than with toddler,or preschooler. lol. I would do it in a heartbeat. Have fun!!

Ditto, ditto, ditto!!! We took DD at 3.5 months because we still had a few weeks left on our AP's from the prior year. It was SO much easier than i anticipated & we really had a lot of fun. We went in September so it was still very hot, but like pp's mentioned we found ways to stay cool & get breaks & it worked wonderful. One of my fave pics of DD at that age was taken in the MK wearing her first pair of little pink sunglasses. She was entertained by every little thing, all day long. Having a stroller that laid back flat enough for her to sleep helped a lot too.

I think a lot of it came down to being prepared and having realistic expectations about what we wanted to accomplish, which was quality family time ultimately. I hope you have a GREAT trip!!!

I have no clue about taking an infant to the parks, but what about just relaxing at the resort?

If you do go to the parks, I would go early morning and/or evening at the coolest times.

And I can't remember, but I think by 3 months mine were eating around every 4 hours with longer stretches at night (they slept from midnight-6am).

I would also bring a stroller. Sounds like it's just you and the baby for quite a few hours. Having a place to put diapers, wipes, change of clothes and the baby after wearing him would be nice.

Not sure if you already have a stroller, but I would look at a City Mini or Peg Perego Pliko P3. I have a P3 and it reclines almost flat.

Have fun!
