Advice, please: hotel choice and Uber drop-off / DTD construction

I would guess it would be for the GCH quests only since they previously did not allow anyone to use the front entrance except GCH guests for a pass thru to the DTD side. Just not understanding why?

Exactly. And for anyone without a key, but with a valid TS reservation inside the GCH, you should be able to use the intercom to give your valid confirmation number, be checked on the reservation list, and buzzed in. The CMs who checked for keys and reservation confirmations used to tell us about some of the abuse they would get from people who thought they should be allowed through, so I imagine that this is a better, safer compromise for Disney.

I kind of like the restricted access to GCH, if I'm being honest. I'm paying a premium to stay there this September, and its location is the main draw. Allowing others to cut through is like sharing that perk with someone who did not pay for it. The only other time I was at DL, I stayed at the GCH. The one morning we attempted rope drop, we were turned away at the GCH-DCA entrance because of the long queue that had already formed (well, the guards suggested going through DTD be. I asked a few ppl, and many were from either the DLH or PPH.

Understand the gate now and they have my blessings. The lobby had gotten so crowded and overburdoned it was crazy at times just to walk to the rooms. Pay that much $$$$$, there should be some restrictions, next with be the DCA entrance.

My daughter and I will be making a quick 2-day DL trip this August and I am considering hotels and transportation to/from the parks. When our whole family is doing a big DL trip, we like to stay onsite, but when it's just a girls' trip, we stay offsite to keep things less expensive. We've stayed at Hojo and CCI previously. I was about to book CCI again but now I'm looking at Hotel Indigo combined with Uber to and from the parks.

My question, I suppose, is this: With the construction starting at DTD, do you think that will affect the Uber drop-off situation at DTD? My daughter has always loved walking through DTD in the mornings heading to the parks, so I thought having Uber drop us off at DTD would give her a little taste of that without actually staying onsite. However, if the Uber drop-off and entrance into DTD is complicated/impacted too much by the construction, I might not mess with it.

I know there is no way to know for sure about this, but any educated guesses / suggestions / opinions would be appreciated! I've never used the DTD parking/entrance so I can't picture it, much less what it might be like during construction. For two days, would you choose CCI and combine walking with their shuttle service, or Hotel Indigo with Uber back and forth? Thanks!!

If you Uber or Lyft, consider pick up and drop off at Cold Stone/IHOP on Harbor Blvd. That’s what we did last week and it worked beautifully. Cross the street and walk right into the security line.

So basically, they'll still have someone at the driveway kiosk to check people arriving by car, but if you're walking you'll either use your GCH key card or get buzzed in (for dining reservations)? I'll bet the CMs who had to put up with people arguing on the sidewalk are happy!

Wonder how much trouble they're going to have with people trying to sneak past the guard kiosk (via the driveway) or who will try the old 'hold the gate' trick when others are entering. If I were a GCH guest and someone came behind me and grabbed the gate after I'd opened it I'm not going to be the one arguing with them or trying to pull the gate shut!
