Advice on what Elliptical to purchase

Daughter wants to purchase an elliptical. She has an old Pro-Form that is good but outdated. Any suggestions? She would like one that has a monitor.

We are on our second Sole elliptical. Don’t buy the bottom of the line, get a nicer one with a heavy duty fly wheel.

I second Sole. I’ve had my E95 for many years and many, many workouts. No problems. Mine doesn’t have a monitor, but I have it set up where I can watch the television, or I just use my tablet.

I have a Precor AMT 885 with Open Stride that was purchased used, and it's great. It has a monitor, but not for tv (gyms can hook it up to some sort of video, but all I can get at home is the work out screens).

Edit--This would probably be out of her budget (we paid $3200 used, and they're over $12K new). But for anyone considering gym quality equipment, consider used. The gyms, like car rental companies with cars, only want their machines when they're really new, and they replace their equipment within 2-4 years, usually.

Well, if she wants a REALLY good one, like if she plans to use it almost daily, Octane Fitness are the best. They are gym quality. They run $3000-4500. We got one, a Q47xi, last September to replace an old Nordictrack (do not recommend that brand) and it is like the holy grail of ellipticals, and it's smaller than our compact NordicTrack. It has a small footprint and low standing height so it's good for low ceilings.

Anything that has iFit IMO. NordicTrack/ProForm is my suggestion. Excellent quality machines and iFit is by far my favorite workout program.

We also have a Sole, I wanna say it was around $2000, we have had it since 2/2015 with no issues.

Those look so nice. I use a Peloton for cardio, but if I was buying an elliptical, I'd look hard at those ones.

I have a ProForm bike and it is absolutely fantastic. iFit is truly an amazing fitness app.

NordicTrack machines LOOK really high end, but when you open them up for the inevitable repairs they will need, you realize what cheaply made pieces of junk they are. Avoid NordicTrack. They last for a couple years and then have a catastrophic, non repairable failure. Its happened to both our elliptical and treadmill. Never again. Our rear treadmill roller bar just FELL OFF mid run, twice, due to sheared bolts. They use cheap materials and can be dangerous when they fail during use. Thank GOD I had quick reflexes and was able to jump onto the side rails when that happened. I was running at about 6mph at the time.

Cybex makes a consumer version of their Arc trainer, can 100% recommend it. I'd also back up DLgal's recommendation of the Octane ellipticals, I just prefer the arc motion vs. elliptical.

NordicTrack's QC is hopeless.

I found mine on Craigslist from a company that resells professional gym equipment. But calling a gym directly might be cheaper since there's no middleman. The setup/delivery included was very important--the machine is huge and had to be dismantled and reassembled inside the room it's in. It's there for better or worse now unless we get someone to move it.
