Advice on websites to look at for cheapest flights

Whilst waiting for flights to become available to purchase for 27th July to 10th August 2013, thought I'd ask for suggestions as to where you look for the cheapest flight prices and when you think it'd cost the least amount of money ie. do I book as soon as flights are available or wait a little? Knowing my luck - i'd miss a good deal!
We have tended to book direct with United Airlines or US Airways.

(that's just 2 on top of my head)

There is no real rule for selecting the best fare.
maybe the best rule is : "if the fare looks good to you, then you'd better book it"

Or, once your dates are released, you can come to the DIS and ask our specialists (Wayne, you there ?) what they think of your quotes.

Similar dates to us this year (18th July-11th Aug)
Around 11 months from your return date set up a Kayak flight alert, do a few for different options you are willing to do. I set up MAN~MCO, MAN~TPA, LON~TPA & LON~MCO. Each morning it sends you an email with latest prices and tells you if its up or down on the previous alert.
Then keep watching forums, if anyone sees a deal they will post. Also check other sites like Travelsupermarket.com.

I have just booked my flights for this Nov, I have been watching for a while and I noticed Orbitz were quite a bit cheaper for for Virgin, you pay in $'s so even better if you have a fee free credit card. For eg MAN ~MCO 30th Oct~10th Nov = $1,186(£765.16) direct with VA £1,167.39. I had this a few years ago with an indirect flight, I paid $380 all UK sites were £380 and it was $2\£1 so made them exactly half price. Used them a few times now.

Do you have any airmiles, saving can be made with those if you have.
