Hi

Looking to book Disneyland for 2018. Need to start planning and counting down the days, we would love to go summer 2018 (Starting mid July), staying in the area for two weeks.

Can anyone advise on any self catering option near to Disneyland. We love eating out, but also find value in having our own kitchen whilst away.

Thanks

Phil

OK, I presume you are talking about Lodging with a Full Kitchen.

In Anaheim, there are plenty of Extended Stay/Apartment style Hotels within walking distance of the parks. Also Time Share owners will rent you their days, and they also come with a Full Kitchen.

In 2018, the city of Anaheim will not allow STR's (Short term rentals) where you rent a house. So that option is out in the city, though some other nearby cities still allow it.

I like the Residence Inn option, but also check out Hyatt House, Hometown Suites and Staybridge Suites, and their are others. Some have a partial kitchens, that might work for you (basically a Microwave and fridge).

How many park days do you actually want? You may be better off staying in a motel or hotel near the resort and then moving on to a rental or extended stay with a kitchen for the remainder of the trip.

All the DVC villas at Grand Californian also have kitchens (well the studio has a kitchenette, the others have a full kitchen ). You would have to rent points though, since VGC is not bookable with cash as far as I know.

Hi, Would be looking at five Park days at Disneyland, a couple of days at Universal, plus booking other site seeing stuff. Will be travelling from the UK

Thanks for the replies.

If most of your sightseeing is in LA, you could easily move to an Airbnb or extended stay near Universal after 5-6 nights in Anaheim. Will you be driving?

While it is a short distance from the parks, I would recommend the Staybridge Suites on South Manchester. The rooms there come with kitchens, containing a decent powerful microwave oven, a hob containing 2 rings and quite a few items within the room, including pots and pans, that would help with regards to this. Staybridge Suites do have a service to the parks and other places from ART (Anaheim Resort Transit) and their ticket prices are very reasonable. The front desk do have knowledge of firms who organize trips to Universal and other places, so just speak with Pam or her colleagues there and they will do their utmost to help you. My wife and I are traveliing from the UK when we visit.

If you're looking for decent flights to LA, seriously look at Norwegian.com. They are much better than Virgin and BA put together. No fuss, no silly politics and also a better clientele when it comes down to travelling in economy from Gatwick.

StarLine Tours do trips to LA from Anaheim, so you'll have no worries there.

Hi, Yes we will be driving. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

We will look intro Norwegian, I have never stayed with them.

I take it the Staybridge charge for parking

Dolphin's Cove is one of the aforementioned timeshares. You can rent via AirBNB or the travel websites, or direct from owners via TugBBS.com and Redweek.com. Free parking, full apartments with kitchens, walk 10 minutes to free Disney shuttle. We are there now (well, DW and I are back in Vegas working until tomorrow night, but DD and our friend are there now). Dolphin's Cove isn't unique, there are several timeshare and extended stay options, but free parking is a little harder to find.

We stayed at Homewood suites convention center and loved them. The kitchen area included a microwave, full sized fridge with freezer and a dishwasher. They also provide breakfast every morning and it has a good variety and is plentiful enough to fill up 2 teenagers. Select nights of the week they also provided an evening meal. This may or may not be enough for dinner depending on your family. We did not have a car so we were limited to buses or walking. Some days we would walk to Disney others we would catch the toy story shuttle which is just next door to the hotel a short walk. The hotel also has a shop with limited supplies, our teenagers loved getting some things to heat up in the microwave when we arrived late back from Disney. You could also pick up some things to heat up and cook from the pharmacys just a short walk away.

Actually the Staybridge doesn't charge for parking, but if you are expecting people to join you who are not staying at the hotel (and are parking a car in the car park) then it is best to inform the front desk as a matter of courtesy.

They also have a small store, similar to the one mentioned at Homewood Suites (but I have never been into Homewood so can't comment 100% on this).

In addition to this, within a short walking distance, there's the Satellite Centre, which sell groceries and drinks - also, a bit further along Katella you have a couple of decent 7-Eleven stores, one close to the GardenWalk mall and one on the crossing of Harbor & Katella. There's also a CVS Pharmacy and a Walgreens pharmacy type store (both sell groceries, alcohol and other stuff) so you should be fine.

Takeout meals can be delivered to the Staybridge rooms and these usually last us a couple of nights at the least, due to the portions being quite big.

Breakfast is free too and they also have - some evenings - an extra snack-type meal called 'Sundowner' which can be made use of as well.
