For any of you who have traveled Amtrak from the New England Area....

having no idea about rates, is this a good one?
Traveling from Boston to Kissimmee.... June/July
4 passengers (2 adults, 2 children), Reserved Coach AAA rate:
Total round trip $ 693 total (all 4 of us)

is that a good rate for Amtrak - should we book it now or would it make sense to wait and see if it goes down?

Any insight is appreciated.

My experience has been that Amtrak rates only go up the closer you get to travel time. AAA unless you have a senior or student is the cheapest rate. If you go to their web site you can check rates. If they do drop and it is within I belive it is 45 days then they charge you $50 to change your tickets. All the info is on their web site. Also we have only taken sleepers so the rules are different for them. Amtrak rates have been up for about the past 6 months due to the gas shortage.

i agree. the closer the trip the more you would pay. i think i also priced during the week vs week ends. its a little higher to. we usually go either tues. or wed and leave around the same day the following week. we were supposed to be leaving 2/14 in 2 weeks, but dd has been sick and we had to change our minds. we only had the train on hold though. so i would def. book now.

I book our train as soon as I have a confirmation from Disney. My wife and I travel from north east ohio to Kissimmee and our round trip fare is usually around 420.00 for the both of us. We once waited for cheap fares a few years ago and got caught with no seats or tickets and had to drive down that year, never again, book vacation and then book train, once the price of tickets did drop and it costs us 35.00 each to reschedule at lower price but it still was cheaper even with the fee. We have gone so many times on amtrak, and we signed up long ago to the Rewards program and collect points for travel, we use some points each trip for an upgrade to a roomette usually the leg from Washington to Kissimmee, and the sleeper includes all meals for the both of us, free newspaper, juice, water and coffee in out "room". Sleepers are new to us and its different.
