Advice please:

We need a room at either Hard Rock or the cheaper one (for the name!!) for one night in August JUST so we can get the express passes for our two day park tour. I keep watching the prices on these hotels and am not seeing them get any cheaper than their $230+ rack room rate. I was really hoping to see some sort of discount but have been waiting so long, I'm now afraid that if I don't book soon, I won't get a room at any price!!

Should I just go ahead and book? Can I cancel and rebook if something comes available cheaper later? Or should I wait another couple of weeks to see if something comes on a deal as Disney has just released free dining for that period.

What to do, what to do????

Are you a triple-A member? If you are, call the Universal hotel reservation number for the triple-A rate. The triple-A rate doesn't appear on the Universal hotel booking website, and is only available by calling, but the number of rooms available at each hotel at this rate is limited.

The only other rate that you could try would be the AP (annual pass) rate, but you would need to own either a preferred or premiere annual pass for that rate.

I don't know when in Aug youare going to go but an AP rate right now for Royal Pacific is $134 on 8/16 (weekday) or $169 at Hard Rock and then a Sat night was $209/$249 for those hotels. Our family has 1 AP pass so we can get the discounts on the rooms, food, and merchandise. Then I use the AP to either buy the rest of the tickets or we see if we can find deals prior to going. We only go about once a year, but maybe I can con my DH to go back early 2011 too :)

If you have AAA you might be able to find a better rate. I would book the rate, you can always call back and change it if the price goes down. But that way at least you have the room.

i agree.

If you want a room, you had better book it.

You can always cancel or call back if/when you find a better rate.

The object is to GET the room booked to have it. Once they are booked/sold, you will be out of luck or have to go to one of the other hotels.
