advice on marathon weekend

I'm running the marathon in 2011
My question is... do you think it will be less busy the week before or after the marathon? We are going to stay for 8 days. Thank you for any information.

I did the Goofy a couple years ago and believe me you are better off staying after the weekend.

The crowds seemed slimmer and honestly the first marathon I did I came down early with family and went against my training & instinct. I didi too much and not enough rest the 2 days before.

Last time I went down solo before the w/e stuck to my plan and did great. My family came down the Sat before the race but stayed off property so I could sleep. Much easier for me in the long run.

I ran the marathon in 2005 and DH organized the trip for me. For sure the week after is better for the vacation so that you can enjoy and not expend yourself before your race. It's great to see all the runners after in the parks wearing their medals or t-shirts. Having been part of it, you feel a special bond with them and can say "I know how you feel". That's when we bought our DVC points. Best thing we ever did!

we were there this Jan before and after the marathon. It was much busier after the marathon. It was frigid this year and alot of the runners said there were no portable heaters in the warm up tents. Be prepared for any kind of weather! We actually saw flurries at Epcot

We did the half marathon but scheduled our trip so we were there before and after. I would echo the pp that after would probably be better. I was glad we were there beforehand to get used to the time change and frigid temps, but enjoyed the parks more after I ran!

Hi. We have been before, during and after and we feel that the few days before are the busiest. This year by Sunday the crowds really died down. Good luck and happy planning. I hope next year is a little warmer for you..we froze our tushies off.

Hey my wife and I went down Wednesday before the marathon through Tuesday after. This way we hit the expo right when it openned on Thursday (I didnt have a line to get my packet, she did for her Chear Squad). I'd say the crowds were fairly consistent through all of the days.
