I am thinking of buying in and have two questions:

How hard is it to make reservations close to the date we plan to travel for a studio or 1 bedroom. We often make decisions 2 to 3 months or even 1 month before we want to travel. Will it be easy to get a studio or 1 bedroom on that short notice?

How do you move from resort to resort or other disney hotel without a rental car? Say we spend Sun - Thurs in our DVC and move to a value resort for the weekend. How do you do that without having your own transportation? Will the resorts transfer lugage from one resort or hotel to another disney owned property?

Thanks for the advice,
Steve

Welcome to the DIS DVC Boards.

Bell services will transfer the luggage, you must be present when they pick it up and when they deliver it. It takes most of the day for your luggage to be transported from one resort to another. After bell services oick it up from you, go to a park and enjoy the day, then call for your luggage that evening at your new resort.

Short notice reservations, however, vary as to their availability. At 60 days out, any unreserved DVC rooms are turned over to Disney for cash reservations, but they can sometimes be recalled by Member Services. Also, DVC "busy" seasons do not match traditional Disney busy seasons...so planning ahead would be best.

DVC works best for those who can plan ahead.

IMHO, if you truly cannot make reservations more than 2 or 3 months in advance, you will not be happy with DVC. While is sometimes possible to get accomodations on short notice, there will be many times where you will not have a choice of resort or unit size. You may have to move / change rooms & resorts during your stay.

There will also be some times of the year where everything is booked solid before that time.

I would not recommend DVC to anyone who cannot usually plan at least 7 months ahead.
